Hi Julie
That Connor story brought back memories and a little tear in my eye. My son who was about 11 at the time started to run across the street one day in a snow storm. We were both crossing but I guess he was in a rush to get out of the cold. The car came so close he had his hands on the guys hood when he was finally able to stop. He slid because of the icey snow. Man, did I cry when we got in Dunkin Donuts and it all hit me!
Sounds like you have a great party planned for your babe!
Sherri's pretty cool. Becareful with her though, don't let her get you addicted to buying cloth diapers! She got me hooked on one brand and I paid her back by getting her to love wool!
Have to go, kiddies want my attention.
Oh, I am a yeller by nature too. Sometimes it's so hard to noy yell.
Angelica will be one on the 26th and Jonathan will be 4 in May. My "baby" will be 17 in may also.

hi julie! welcome!

i cannot believe my baby is goingto be 1 year old this month. yikes! where did the time go! i haven't plotted up a party yet either, but don't think we'll do anything too big. her birthday is the monday after thanksgiving this year. i think we need to do _something_ though!

how could she be 1??

Julie, Welcome! Do you have some t-shirts or aprons for the kids that will be handling the food coloring, LOL!!?? My aunt did that for one of my cousins, and the kids got to take the shirts home. they went from decorating the cookies to decorating their shirts, lol.

i remeber this time last year, I was worrying about when I would go into labor b/c i didnt want to be overdue...and you guys were all popping yours out one right after the other, lol. :LOL I kept thinking, "when will it be my turn?" LOL!!

Sage is eating soooo much solid food. Not all healthy stuff either, but we have to eat what FIL's DW buys, they wont let us buy anything....i tell them, "get organic baby food," and they laugh at me b/c they dont have that in this tiny town, only gerber. so FIL's DW made some home made applesauce, and mashed potatoes, etc...so thats not so bad i guess. anyway, she is eating a ton! and then nursing all night too....I'm surprised she has not gained any weight, but then again, i have not weighed her lately either.

Angelica had scrambled eggs tonight. She liked them lots.

solid foods

Justy eats regular food now. I have a freezer full of homemade baby food (once I started buying those jars again I remembered how much I hated that with my son : so I used my resources - Babycenter at the time - and got some input. Only a few weeks of jarred foods and then we went to all mommy-made!! ) but she's always been a light eater. Now she eats from the table with us and seems to do fine. I said I told the daycare to start giving her regular milk but I think she prefers the vanilla soy!

I'm doing a trial elimination of cow's milk from my son's diet, about another week and we'll try the cow's milk again and see what we've got. Food sensitivities can show up in behavioral changes, and learning that cow's milk/dairy can contribute to things like hyperactivity and asthma have me wondering if my slightly asthmatic crazy boy child is suffering ill effects. So we're on a trial. Could be the milk. Could be he's just two. We'll see soon enough! But Justy made faces and yelled at me when I gave her cow's milk the first time, but she liked the soy tonight. I don't really know how she does at daycare, I ask and they'll just say "Oh she did great today!" They're really nice but even after spending as much time there as I have I still get the generic parent answers!

She enjoys feeding herself and I enjoy letting her! I'm always afraid that she's getting tired of eating before she's getting full from it, but tonight she ate over half of a fish filet and some sweet potato puffs and a couple of peas and I think she did alright! And she nurses all night - ALL NIGHT - so I know she's getting her nutrition! That's probably partially my fault, zombie mommy tends to pop the boob in there before she has a chance to really get going at 3am, but at least we get more sleep that way!

: I have a question, what do you think about night nursing vs. tooth decay? My mom swears that it was my sister's night nursing that essentially started rotting her baby teeth and had to have all in the front and some in the back capped when she was only a few years old. I think she didn't instill good tooth brushing habits young enough. I've heard (from a pretty well-informed crunchy mom) that studies have actually shown NO decay from teeth steeped in breastmilk and even additional calcium deposits on the enamel. And then my mom swears it was the night nursing that ruined my sister's teeth. What do you think about it?

I ask because I try really hard to brush Connor's teeth every morning, but sometimes we get in a rush and don't. I aim for each evening too but with working FT and then getting them from daycare and then a 45 min commute home our evenings can be pretty busy too and we'll miss that. I'm only just trying to get Justy involved in whatever toothbrushing routine we catch but I think it's better than nothing. I just worry!

Did I mention I love the smileys on here? :

Devmom - It's all in the genetics. I night-nursed my 4yo for at least 2 full years. His teeth are beautiful and the dentist has said so. However, I'm not a good brusher - twice a day only and he goes for his first checkup in two weeks. I've taken him earlier to the dentist with me, but the dentist has said they don't look good and refused to waste time and money doing a full cleaning of them. This will be the first.

I have a friend who night nursed her son for at leat a year, maybe 2 years. She was much more vigilant about brushing his teeth and not letting hime eat sweets. His front teeth rotted and they're brown. She feels awful, of course, and went to the dentist who said it was strictly genetics.

More on the genetics issue: I have great teeth - no cavities, no braces, the dentist always gives me a hard time about not giving him any business. I'm 37yo. I've never been a great brusher. I love sweets. I remember to floss about once a month and usually floss for a full week prior to my checkup b/c I feel guilty.

Oh my God--you guys are like a bunch of klatshing old ladies! And I only say "you guys" because I can. Ramadan, and I didn't subscribe and all...well, looks like Eid is tomorrow (yay), so maybe I'll be around more. I made it to page 6 and decided to catch up later.

Meryem is all speed and no control. She runs around like a little old lady in public. She goes after babies. She has a "naughty hand," kind of like an automatic tic that goes off when she's not listening to my "Not for babies!"

She's working on her 3rd tooth, a top one. Ds found it by sticking his finger in her mouth. Meryem loves having her teeth brushed, and seems to think she needs a toothpick after meals.

She drinks a little cow's milk in a sippy cup, but still prefers green tea. Will eat anything. Had a PB&J yesterday.

Does it count as talking if I am the only one who understands her? "Mama" is her only clear word. I understand "more," "all done," "bo-bo" (our term for nursing), ds's name, "Baba," "puppy," "hello" (while pretending to be on the phone). But no one else in the world would understand her.

She colors with a crayon on paper, and will now sit in my lap for book reading. She's still in 9-12mo clothes. Hates diaper changes. Loves baths. Pulls books from the shelves in the library. Wants the sling at home (while I am cooking mostly) but wants to walk in public. Knows when she is wearing something pretty.

This is why people decide to have more kids. Some babies are in too much of a hurry to...well, to move into the toddler forums.

1jooj~~i think it is definately talking, even if others dont get it. She is able to communicate with you and you understand. Sage is the same way. DH was feeding her and she kept waving her arms and saying "muh muh muh" which he thought was "mama" but I knew she was saying "more."

1JOOJ, YOUR BABE SOUNDS SO SWEET!
sorry about the caps

Cher bebe! Jooj- that sounds like talking to me! Good to have you back-

Devmom- now I'm worried about brushing DS's teeth -he night nurses all night and he has 8 teeth. I brush them sometimes when I bathe him, but I haven't been doing it with any great regularity. : I guess I better start, huh.....

My first kid has great teeth, nursed all night long for 3 years.

Second kid had decayed and broken teeth by 2 years old. She nursed a lot less at night and had the same tooth care routine as the first. The dentist said it was genetics and mouth chemistry.

So far so good with Iris and her 8 teeth. We let her chew on a toothbrush once or so a day, and the dentist said that should be fine for now. Iris like having a toothbrish while the bigger kids are brushing. Hard to get her to hold still though.

Iris eats everything with gusto! She loves Indian food, Thai food, any food actually. Spicy is fine. Beans, tofu, any kind of veggies, soup, pasta, it's all good! She is starting to use a fork or spoon when I don't mind the mess, otherwise we just put stuff on the table in front of her. She has figured out that the O's are inside the cereal box, and takes great delight in filling her fist (and feeding the dog in the process!). I just give her what we are having for the most part.

Hi Sagewinna. Your Sage sounds a lot like my Dane. He has 8 teeth and we let him chew on the toothbrush, too. He absolutely insists on it. He will eat anything. He stuck his hand in some lasagna last week and before I could stop him had it in his mouth. He wouldn't eat anything else that I had prepared for him after that, which was the usual: avocado, carrots, etc. Nope. Lasagna or nothing. He loves, loves beans & rice. Spicy doesn't matter at all. I bet he's love Thai food, too.

We've only got 4 teeth here, so I haven't broken out the toothbrush for her yet.

My older night nursed until she was over 2 and has fine teeth. We try to brush twice a day, but often only manage once.

Emily has discovered crayons and is loving using them. I have a great picture of Emily and Katie sitting at their little table coloring. So cute! She wants to be a big kid like her sister sooooo badly!

Emily has started crawling down the stairs (with me spotting her) and climbing up onto the couch. Truly amazing.

1jooj - I think it is talking. Emily is saying mama and dada, doggy (dogga), uh-oh, all done (she's only done this a couple of times), uh-uh, and dh swears she said raisin.

She's starting to walk in 3-4 step bursts! And she loves the slide at the park. She fearlessly pitches herself down it at any given moment!

Ya know what?
I am kinda glad Angelica doesnt do alot of the things mentioned on just this page alone.
It means I get to keep my baby a baby a little longer!
Dont get me wrong, I don't not teach her things but the longer she takes the more baby time I have!
Tonight her brother had fake milk and cookies on his little table in his room. She got up and walked around the table to reach them (holding on). As soon as she got to him he walked away with it(I dont think it was on purpose). She was not happy. She got on her knees and yelled and followed him into the kitchen. She did end up with one cookie.

Ya know what Tammi? My "baby" isn't doing alot of what I have been reading either. He isn't really talking at all- just babbles variations of "Dadadada". He is walking more and more, but he still won't wave "byebye" :LOL He looks at me like " you want me to do what? "

We are having a B-Day party for DH today. He cooked 2lbs of redbeans and rice yesterday in the crockpot With lots of bacon and tasso.... I gotta clean my house before everyone comes over.

Talk to y'all later

Angelica won't do bye bye for me either.
Last she I watched her plan he way onto the floor and into crawling position. It was so cute how she planned to fsll to the floor with her hand ready to touch the floor she got down and she was off. It was so cute I had to re-inact for Paul and got a rugburn on one knee! I dont know how her knees stay so soft and pretty.

I cant beleive how fast sage is doing everything. It seems like she is growing up too fast.

growing TOO fast!

Since I'm new I want to introduce my little people with faces too! I got a lot of pics yesterday of Justy standing up unassisted. She'll take a few steps before she falls over but she totally has to be coerced! Only one time did I see her take 3 steps that were all her idea, and that's it!

I think as soon as you verify for yourself the link between the item she means and the word she uses - it's officially talking! Mama was Justy's first work (YEAH!) and the first few times she babbled it I just called it babbling. But then one day she did it as she was coming for me and stopped as soon as I picked her up - I counted that one!! She says Mamamama and Dadadada and Bite-bite and then a lot of screeching noises mixed in, she really likes the sound of her own voice! She waves bye and hello and does this little thing where she plays cute when she doesn't really know you, she tilts her head to the side and lays her cheek on her shoulder and will just smile at the stranger.

I said before that she eats off the table now, and she seems to prefer more strongly flavored foods, I like a little garlic salt in my scrambled eggs, and while Connor and dh won't touch them she ate a bunch after turning her nose up to plain ones! Takes after me!!

I think that she's picking up stuff way faster than Connor did at this age. I mean, he was already walking by now - but when it comes to toys and the way they are intended to be played with - he made a lot of it up as he went and now he's older and has it figured out. She will watch HIM do something and then be able to replicate it almost immediately. It's so funny to get the two of them involved in a bit of a tickle wrestling match. To be fair, Mommy-Cookie-Monster takes turns and it's hilarious to see one lay still and watch the other get their turn and then shriek with laughter when it's their turn again.

Thanks for the ideas of just letting them chew on toothbrushes, someone mentioned it before but I guess I filed it away in my Oh-okay-whatever file.

Hi Everyone ...

No time to really post, but new people.

Just wanted to jump in on the toothbrushing thing ... Henry has 6 teeth and I started brushing when there were 4. What I do is use a drop of baby safe toothpaste on a brush and then tell him what I'm going to do ("its time for Mommy to brush your teeth and then you can brush your teeth") and then I go "ah" and open my mouth. He now knows the routine and he opens his mouth and says "ah" on cue. He also knows he gets to "brush" his teeth when I'm done brushing his. His brushing consists of a lot of chewing on the toothbrush, but at least we do it w/o issue now. I'm paranoid about dental health so we try to do this twice a day but at least always before bed (usually, right after his bath). As I understand it, the decay arises from food particles left on their teeth, not from breastmilk, so if you get the food particles off by brushing, the bm isn't bad. But there are also genetic tendencies as well as a bacteria that babies can get from sharing saliva with grown-ups that makes them more prone to decay. So be careful about sharing spoons, etc.

HTH! I'll post more later about Henry's party yesterday.

Wow ladies, it just took me almost half an hour to catch up! For some reason, I haven't been getting notified like I used to that there's a new post so I thought no one was chatting?! Ha! Should have known better with this group!

Hello Julie and welcome to our CHATTY group!

Branden's been very busy lately doing new things. He's recently started to say "Buh Bah" (not Mama of course)
He's a savage when it comes to eating, I've never seen a child eat like Branden does! He will eat anything and everything and lots of it!

He did the cutest thing while in the bath tub last night. He could see his reflection in the drain thingy at the front of the tub (ya know the thing that helps to make sure the tub doesn't overflow?). I saw him smiling at himself and told him to kiss the baby and he did! Too cute It was also his first bath with his Daddy and Bran was fascinated with Daddy's ummm....well....part :LOL Kept trying to grab it! Daddy didn't think it was so funny....

The older 2 convinced me to put up the xmas tree today and oh how I knew I would regret it afterwards....Branden saw it when I finally let him in the room and made a bee-line for the tree! Ugggg, gonna have to keep him out of the front room for awhile I guess :LOL

That's it for now. Have a great weekend all!!
