Spotting in first trimester

Hi all,

I started to spot yesterday. The consoling thing is that it's light brown (not bright red), and it is _extremely_ light flow -- I'd hardly even call it a flow. And I have read that this is normal during first trimester.

I'm just curious if any of you are experiencing the same thing?

Do you also know why it happens? I'm practically at 8 weeks, so it's not the normal 9 day implanation bleeding. I read one theory that this happens sometimes around the time your next period would have been which sounds about right.

I am trying to stay positive on this, and probably will be able to stay so as long as the color doesn't change!

Hi, I'm popping in from the Jan. board. Just wanted to say that with both of my pg's, I had spotting around 7/8 weeks. It was very light and there were no cramps or pains associated with it. It can be completely normal.

If you experience any cramps or pain, I'd call your doctor or midwife. That's the advice I got from my ob.

Take care.

Thanks for your response Mary. There are no accompanying cramps or pain, so I feel much better!

I'm spotting as well and while I know it's normal it kind of bothers me too. I didn't spot with either of my first pg.

I know so many who have, so I'm just trying to remind myself, this is normal and not to worry too much.

Hang in there!

I miscarried right before getting pregnant with Nik.
With Nik I had a pinprick of blood once during the first trimester.
I'm cramping a little more with this pregnancy which I've heard is normal, but last night when I wiped I had a thin line of brown blood in my mucous and then just now at work, I had a small glob of brownish-tinged blood in my mucous (sorry to be so graphic).
I still get cramps periodically, but nothing like what I had with my miscarriage. Like when I sneezed this morning I got a sharp cramp that took a moment to subside.
I'm just trying not to worry too much about it. I picked up my 50+ lb. nephew the other day- do you think maybe that may have caused a little bit of bleeding?

They say brown blood is old blood, but after my m/c when I had one episode of brownishy mucus, I went straight to the doc and got my first ultrasound, because I was all upset. (My m/c started out with brown mucus, but actually it was a blighted ovum.) Anyhow, I hear that one should report anything unusual to your doc or midwife. Good luck!

Yeah me too. Pretty much the same, mostly brown, not a lot.

My midwife says yes sometimes around the time you'd be menstruating, which sounds right. Also that when the egg implants, it really implants--into your tissue--and then as it grows it breaks out thru that tissue partly, and that can cause spotting.

It makes me jumpy and nervous as hell, even tho I have all the info I need to know I'm ok. I didn't spot last time except right at 13 days or whatever, and it is just unnerving. I keep trying to remember to breathe, and hoping I will calm down soon and stop feeling this way.

I haven't had any spotting since I last posted- I think you're right Denise- that was around my period time. It's weird- 2 days before I'd get my period I'd get really really really testy and short-tempered. I got that way the last two days- I swear, I was waiting for my period to show up , especially with how bloated I am.
