Called my dad tonight to wish him a Happy Birthday. This is the conversation.
Hi Daddy, Happy Birthday.
Thank you, Sweetie. How are my grandchildren?
Great, Dad. _____ had hockey tonight, he just loved it. The girls are doing well, ______ (28 months)is in a language explosion right now and ______ must be in a growth spurt, she's nursing all the time (laugh)
Well, how are they sleeping for you, you sound tired.
I am, but you know, they're toddlers. (joking tone here) Besides, by the time I get them sleeping through, it would be just perfect timing that I'd have another newborn by then.
Well, _____'s almost 15 months, she shouldn't be waking at night still, should she?
I'm not concerned, she's waking a lot, but right now, she's dealing with a lot.
Does she eat solid food?
Oh, yeah, she's not waking to nurse for food, just for the comfort and security.
Well, then isn't it time to cut her off?
....
Dad, ummm, you do know that I'm still nursing _______, right?
Oh.
They'll wean when they're ready.
No they won't.
Dad, honestly, do you know anyone who went off to college still nursing?
Well, no, but in the olden days, they used to nurse their kids until they were three or four
:LOL
Yeah.
Well, don't you think that's a bit ridiculous?
No.
(Stunned silence follows.)
Well, honey, thanks so much for calling. ..........
Goodness, I just love stunning him into silence. :nana:
