Another idea - breastfeeding awards??

Ok - this goes along with all the other creative juices flowing on advocacy today. Is there any way we could create an award for milestones in breastfeeding - it could just be an email award, but it would be a way to let moms know we are proud of them for breastfeeding??

For example, there could be one for moms who have initiated breastfeeding & a few links to info to help them get started well. Then one for 1 mo., 3 mos., 6 mos. 1 year, 2 years & beyond.

I know some moms think no one knows or cares if they breastfeed or not. I think the award would have to be sent from a friend who knows someone is breastfeeding. It would be a cute, but informative way to support other moms.

Maybe an award for family members/friends who are exceptional supporters to bf moms - could be sent by the mom or by someone else.

Is this something that could be created?

I love this idea.

I'm so tired of hearing people say "it's not like you're going to get a medal if you (fill in the blank)." It makes me want to make up a bunch of medals and give them to all the mamas I know who are doing what's best for their babies even if it is "inconvient."

I absolutely love these - I've never seen them! I was almost crying reading the extended nursing certificates.

I'm going to post these links to Lactnet, and my list. I absolutely think that people should start handing these out.

An email postcard would absolutely compliment this. Why not just ask the host sites already to create one? they could probably just modify what they have?

Or even one of the general birthday card sites - if they knew that alot of us would use them, they probably would add them to their stock.

(this idea could be translated to pins or rings, too - I often thought that it would be wonderful to have a secret pin, that people would wear, to identify ourselves to each other!)

Oohh, I love this idea!! And I love the pin idea!!! Anyone feel like designing some? It could be done thru Cafepress, the only limitation there is that if you have a free shop you can only put up one of each kind of product and we'd need about 6. Maybe someone who already has a paid shop could offer them.

I just wanted to let you know that when I read the title of the thread the visual image in my head was a big olympic medal clipped onto nipples- or tassles like strippers wear
:LOL :LOL
The real idea sounds much less painful

Another idea...I have had an extremely difficult time with nursing due to my daughter's bubble palate causing chronic nipple damage. It is going to be a HUGE accomplishment for me to get to one year. (2.5 months away!) I have fantasized about some kind of beautiful little "purple heart" necklace I could get as a memento of my hard work. Something really pretty for mom, KWIM? Maybe with an amethyst. You could do something similar with the "colors" for lengths of time spent nursing.

I freely "give" this idea to the MDC community, though if anyone wants to sell/market such a thing I'd love a credit!
