Your girls are really close aren't they. I am glad that Trapolin has pretty much weaned himself except for bedtime. I have this mole on my stomach that he "diddles" all the time and I wonder if he will get cranky that the baby is there when it is nursing. "The world may never know"

As for the due date thing this is a serious shock to my system although people argue it serves me right because the other three were 12, 9 and 21 days early so I am really, really spoiled and I am kind of worried about having a big baby because they were all under eight pounds. Oh well, I am trying to keep a sense of humor about it.
At least since everything I am doing is "against the rules" here in Iowa, I don't have to worry about the pressure to deliver before 42 weeks like Ann. That would be awful. I am going to invoke my crazy birthing necklace for you Ann.

On the nursing topic, BTDT. I had her latched on wrong all night when they finally let me nurse her in the hospital. The results were horribly sore nipples. My right had blisters all over it. Well, I figured out how to get her latched properly with some help, but I had to go through 2-3 days of extremely painful nursing until my nipples healed.

I'm still having some trouble with the right nipple. I don't know why I have so much trouble, just on that side! And when she first latches on, OMG the pain! After about ten seconds it stops hurting, but for the first part I just have to wince and tell myself to breath and relax.

I would really like to nurse lying down at night, but I can't for the life of me get her latched on correctly in that position. Am I ever going to get to the point where I can just stick her on a boob with one hand and no problems? Will it ever happen???

IN a word, Monica...yes It will happen...it takes practice and a certain amount of stubbornness! I've managed with 3 kids, so I know anyone can do it... Just a reminder new mommies...most local LLL groups have a help line..you can go to www.llli.org and see if you can find a local one

I agree with Meg, Monica. Not to be sexist or anything but my girls had a hard time latching on too and I remember how sore I was with Riley. I can't believe that was 12 years ago. Let's just say lactation consultants were not as prevalent then as they are now.

Sorry about the nursing troubles! Hope everything gets better. Monica, with Mabel I had a poor latch on my right side, too. It hurt for days. Are you using lanolin? You will get the hang of everything before you know it. In my opinion, nipple soreness is part of the game. You'll have a while with no problems, and then baby bites your nipple (with or without teeth, it still hurts!) Luckily, for the majority of the time, nursing is wonderful.

Steph, yep, they are pretty close. I wanted to nurse dd#1 longer but she was under a year when I got pregnant and self-weaned due to my lack of supply. She hasn't asked to nurse yet since dd#2 was born. I wondered if she would. I can't imagine how you must be going crazy after having the others so early! It's got to be soon mama.

On the nursing issue, I'm suspecting thrush rather than latch issues. I fought thrush the entire year I nursed dd#1 and was never able to completely get rid of it. This hurts like hell the entire time she is nursing and I know she's been latching on well for the past day and a half. I'm trying real hard to lay low on the sweets, but with every meal brought to us by friends comes more sweets. I even refused abx. treatment during labor to try and ward off thrush. Grrrr... At least Iknow how to treat it this time. Anyone ever had their milk come in very gradual? I'm not really sure that my milk has come in, but the last bm was more brown (vs. black) and less tarry.
