One of my dds has been using the potty all day yesterday and today. For the most part, she managed to stay dry, but only because I suggest she go to the potty every so often. In fact, she has not initiated potty use on her own once! She has had two accidents: one pee and one poop. Niether time did she inform me she was about to go or needed to go, and only after the pee-pee did she even ask to be cleaned up. Also, she's not crazy about sitting on the potty--it usually takes some coaxing; however, when I offer her the choice of either using the potty and wearing panties or wearing a diaper, she always chooses panties.
I must admit I feel like I'm doing all the work here. My dd has gotten to a point where she pees less frequently, so it's easy for me to pick strategic times and suggest that she use the potty, or in some cases insist that she try by giving her the choice I refered to earlier. It just seems to me that real potty learning involves a child *knowing* when they have to go and *wanting* to go in the potty.
So is what I'm describing all part of the learning process? Is this the beginning stages of potty learning?
After all, I don't know--this is the first time I've ever tried to do this with a child!
