I was directed to Singapore news
by a friend who lived in Indonesia and she thought it was a good source for truthfull news.

Lets make a list maybe of alternative news sources. It helps me get a better grasp on what is really going on in our world, not just out tiny little country.

www.guardian.co.uk (a liberal newspaper in Britain, well respected & well written. Gives good sweep of national (British) news & international news)

www.mg.co.za (a weekly African newspaper - the only good one I've ever read on the continent! Some parts of it are subscription only, but most of the ordinary news stuff isn't)

www.mondediplo.com (the French newspaper Le Monde in its English edition - quite highbrow, articles long, but worth browsing to find the occasional really interesting piece. Very good outside Europe esp Russia, China & South America. Again, parts are only accessible if subscribed)

I also like the International Herald Tribune but I read that in paper format, & you seem to have to subsribe to read it online.

I just went to Alternet for the first time, that I recall anyway, and enjoyed the editorial colum, until she maligned staying home with your child. So even though it was my first time visiting the site, I had to take the time to email feedback about "The Unbearable Darkness of Being."

I'd suggest any other like minded mama's do the same. I hate being thought of as less of a liberal because I *gasp* stay home with my children.

a couple

NPR, if you can consider that alternative, and bbc.com which gives a whole different perspective. I'm interested to try the others.

I don't know how alternative it is, but I like Salon.com.

You can get the International Herald Tribune online (at least I have gotten something I think is IHT) without subscribing. The address is http://www.iht.com.

It's satirical, but good.

and NPR rocks

NPR and the BBC. I also like Snopes and Factcheck.org (not .com :LOL) but they are addictive. Someone always links those and I can never stop reading. The Onion is also addictive.
