Anyone not had 1st apt. yet?

I really had a hard time getting everything ready for my Medicaid application, which I just managed to send in a few weeks ago. Well, I just got it back and it says I need more stuff - including my SS card. Problem is, I lost mine. I am going to have to wait until I get my card back - then send it in again to Medicaid peeps, then get that app back before I can even schedule my first appointment!!!!!!!

This sucks. I am sure like everyone else has at least been to the Dr/midwife once already, and I haven't even had my PG confirmed by anyone other than a HPT! I am feeling really down on myself, and worried. I don't know what I'm looking for, by posting this. Has EVERYONE else been to the Dr/midwife? Is there anything else I can do? Should I be worried? Can I have a hug???

I just got my medicaid card yesterday. I haven't had my first appointment yet either, but I'm going to a homebirth midwife, so it's all out-of-pocket anyway. You'll get it together. How many weeks are you? You don't NEED to see anyone right away at all if things seem okay. Trust your own instincts.

We've only done a consult... but with only one MW, I haven't gotten it together enough yet to do more. But yeah, we're all out of pocket, so whatever.

As for getting your preg confirmed, what's the point? Home preg tests look for one thing only, and if it comes up + and you have other indications, I think you're preg!

Hang in there, mama! We're here if you need us!

I missed the bit about the HPT before (tired & skimming I guess). With my last pregnancy, no one ever did anything other than the 2 tests I peed on at home. A line is a line is a line. A lot of times the offices just use HPTs anyway. The OB blood workup won't necessarily check for that. They'll look for other things - CBC for hemoglobin & stuff. (I'm brilliant tonight!)

no appt. yet either

I haven't had my first appt. yet. My husband and I are currently living in Moscow, Russia and we don't want to go to the American clinics here. A midwife I've worked with lives several hours away and I haven't been able to see her since I've been pregnant. She said as long as there's no pain or bleeding, you can wait until at least 12 weeks to see somebody. We move back to the States in 3 weeks and I'll see a midwife then. I feel good and my belly's growing, so I think all is well. I am anxious to have a urinalysis and Hemoglobin check done, though. Will schedule an appt. AS SOON AS we get home.
Good luck!

Thanks, ladies. You make me feel reassured. I am about 12 weeks as it is, but I just went ahead and emailed midwifes office to see if they could see me and bill Medicaid later. For some reason, after I posted this last night I got a memory of that perhaps being possible. I don't know... I feel fine, and I know my belly is growing, too - so I'm not too worried.
THanks again!

That is really a good idea! I am sure that many midwives would be willing. Other providers may ask to you pay ahead, and then be reimbursed.(If that is possible for you. For us, probably not!!) It is recomended that a woman has 12-13 appts before delivery, per the preinatal services network I work with. That is optimal for prenatal care. Good luck to you and keep us informed.

I forgot that that was an option too! I did that last pregnancy. You have to have a confirmation from the office that you're pregnant anyway for the medicaid application (if you only qualify while pregnant like me).

I'm late chiming in here, and I've had my 1st appt, but I can offer the hug you asked for!!

I hope the mw will see you, if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease

About your SS card. If you go to the SS office and order your new card they will give you a letter that will work as proof of your SS# until your new card arrives.

No first appt yet right now. Only thing I did was go to the family doc, who had me pee in a cup, ordered an HCG blood test. She also sent me for an u/s but only because I miscarried earlier this year. I had the u/s at 6 weeks and haven't done a thing since then.

Of course, that's because I want a homebirth and hb midwives around here are notoriously difficult to find. Hubby's getting nervous about not having had an appt yet. I'm not really, because what are they going to tell me? yeah I'm pregnant, and I need to buck up through the nausea. Stuff I already know.
