The Incredibles!!!

Thread Starter
We just got back from the theatre.

I didn't get to see the whole thing as one of my twins wasn't cool with how long or scary it was.

I LOVE pixar but should let y'all know there are guns and violence and some disturbing, for young kids, images in them. I had to explain some things to my 6 yo that I'd rather not have had to at this point.

But overall, as PIXAR does, it was REALLY clever and had some great moments that parents will laugh hysterically over. :

Peace,

Nifty -- dh is going to see it tonight w/ some of his buddies -- I'm kinda jealous -- now I'm even more jealous! :LOL

Very cool! But, it was rather perilous. I don't think my 5 yr. old was terribly impressed.
I'm not sure if Pixar is purposely moving toward a more "mature" audience, or what. But I hope "Cars," their next venture, is more small fry friendly!

We saw it and loved it!

The intensity of the action took me by surprise - but it was a pleasant surprise. The characters were so fleshed-out and sympathetic. It was beautifully designed - the script was witty and intellegent.

We went with a group of people from age 50 down to age 5 and everyone was delighted.

I read a review of this movie in Newsweek, which said --

Quote:
So some folks may blanch when the bullets fly. Or when the momma superhero holes up in a cave with her little superheroes and tells them, "Remember the bad guys you used to watch on Saturday mornings? Well, these guys are not like those guys. They won't exercise restraint because you're children. They will kill you if they get the chance."
That quote disturbed me and I don't think I'd want my 5yo ds to see it.

The review also said --

Quote:
...it must be said that there's something disappointing about the fact that one of the most inventive filmmaking teams on earth has finally make a movie about humans -- and the humans are carrying guns.

We just saw this movie and I wanted to walk out.
OK I'm probably being overly dramatic, but I leaned over to dh and said if this wasn't a cartoon it would be have an R or pg-13 rating.
Of course ds loved it. But I for sure am not getting the toy/book/merchandise.

I agree it was good for grown ups, but not for little kids.

While it was made for no one under seven ; torture and several killings. It was a great movie! The accurate portrayal of the work of a marriage, the trade off of glamour for a stable home life and a job. The kids were a fairly reasonable set of kids, not perfect, but not spoiled beyond belief and willing to pull together for the sake of the family. Cool! It even showed the everday meal and the bathing of a baby by a loving mom. Holly Hunter's voice was amazing. My kids are 8 and 10, they loved it!

Ds liked it, though he found it a bit long. I thought it was great, but I would tell mommas about the issues in it so they know what they are getting into before they go. Every kid is different.

I rather liked what the mom said about enemies not being like cartoons. It's true IRL, even if our kids may never be in a position where someone is coming after them with a gun.

We took the kids to see it this past weekend & they all liked it. I thought it was pretty good too, & was surprised at how long it was, it usually seems like family movies are getting shorter & shorter.

I've actually told my 5 year old daughter almost this very thing. She doesn't believe bad guys are real, and I told her there are people who will hurt or even kill children. I guess that is too harsh.

My daughter watches a lot of "scary" movies and she said she really liked this one, but I felt it was more for adults even so. It was longer and it seemed like she got bored in the middle.

Sorry, but it was sort of a head scratching moment for me to hear this coming from a cartoon. About the bad guys not being cartoons, and how "they will kill you".
Dunno. Just not impressed at all.

Peace

We're going to see this tonight.

I'm not meaning to rile anyone up here, but it always surprises me that so many parents seem to think that anything PG is acceptable for kids. The reviews of this movie online specifically say "PG for violence."

DH and I took our toddler, who nursed and fell asleep. We loved it. Yes, I knew it was somewhat violent from the reviews. I think this is Pixar's first PG rating (not G), so I agree with Tadpoles. I loved the way it portrayed family life and we just about fell out of seats with that highway scence: "Do I take 7, veering the motorhome into the exit lane. "NO! Don't take 7!" "I think I should get off at 7.""You ask me for directions....

Loved the little tributes to Fantastic Four - like the baby flaming up. We're old comic books fans. Our first movie in over a year. We choose carefully.

Definite thumbs down from me. I didn't think it was even clever. Pixar has done so much better. Also, I usually love Holly Hunter and her voice got on my last nerve in this movie.

My kids (the ones that saw it are 10 and 7) have barely talked about it since we saw it, and I'm not hearing, "I can't WAIT until it comes out on DVD." That tells me something.
