My friend's DH died yesterday!

I'm still in denial! I can't believe it. They have three small children and he didn't have any life insurance. Please send prayers and good thoughts.
Oh, and if anyone has any info on how to help children through grief, please let me know. The kids are 5, 3 and 1.

~ what a tragic thing to happen, so unexpected, which probably makes it all that much harder for you friend to process.
I will definately say a prayer for her and her children ~ and for *you* that you may find the strength to help her through this unimaginable sense of loss.

I just saw this on the news. I'm so sorry to hear of the fellow's real family circumstances. His family isn't mentioned at all in the news report.

I know Mothering did an article or two on death sometime, if you've got access to an index and back issues?

Mostly I suggest you give them room to speak when they want to, listen and be truthful and supportive. Just the fact of your not pulling away will be helpful to the family. Kind of "duh" suggestions I know, but ...



I think I'd be very angry if I were in your friend's shoes, once the shock wears off. What the H is a father with no life insurance doing climbing a blanking mountain!?!?!

I too, remember seeing this on the news.

Thanks for your support. I'm taking food over to her this weekend and I'll hopefully be able to be of some help, maybe do some laundry. A mutual friend had the kids last night, they haven't been told yet, and she said they just seemed to know. It was like his sprit was there with them.

I've been doing some searching through the G&L forum and dug out some of my past issues of mothering that deal with children and grief. This is all just so unexpected! He had a near death experence only 1 1/2 years ago where his 4 year old saved his life. Then just two months ago he moved down to Oregon while my friend and the kids stayed here. Now this...

There was a great article in the local paper about him today. I still can't believe he's gone. Those poor children.
