Gluten intolerance/ibs?

I went off of gluten almost a year ago. My migraines have almost stopped(down from 1-3 per week) It did not help the reflux much, I am taking protonix for that.
The few times I have slipped up and had gluten, I crave it, and a cracker or two is followed by another and I usually end up having about two servings of gluten over a day or two. Then, I wake up in the middle of the night with horrible cramping diarrhea. Then, the diarrhea stops, but the cramping continues for a day or two. Then the consitpation starts and will last most of a week. My questions: to other gulten intolerants, do you gluten reactions last for a week after you have ingested wheat?
Also, even when I am not on gluten, I still run into some bouts of darrhea and constipation. SHould I try eliminating dairy? How about yeast? I do get yeast infections fairly frequently.

I would recommend some intensive probiotic therapy, see Power of Probiotics thread. They can rebuild your villi that has been damaged by gluten ... one such brand, Reuteri by Nature's Way has research on this (and is my current favorite).
They can also produce lactase enzyme in the gut to eliminate dairy sensitivity.

I think the IBS symptoms are yeast symptoms. Coconut oil is also excellent at soothing the intestines and is anti viral anti bacterial and anti fungal as well.

If your celiac it can take a week or 2 to recover. I would suspect your getting hidden gluten in your diet without realizing it which is causing the bm problems. I would crack down and varify EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth is GF.

It took me about a month g/f before all of the problems stopped. Since then, I haven't had any gluten though...I don't want to take the risk. But it can take a while to get it out of your system since even a tiny molecule of gluten can harm your intestines...

Its every where! Most commercial products have gluten in them. I would start at www.celiac.com and see if you can get a copy of Living Without http://www.livingwithout.com at your local hfs, its always got a list of major gluten offenders in it.

OMG< I am totally not gluten free!! I checked out the celiac.com list. Whew!! I had not thought about going completely gluten free, bc I havent been diagnosed with celiac disease, but I will try it for a month and see if it clears up the other stuff.

It may take a couple months as your body needs to heal. In the mean time I highly reccomend you get the blood test done. If it comes back negitive you could still have it but if its + you can be pretty sure you do have it and you can test negitive within a couple weeks of going GF.
