if you are against war, there is a children's song by Dan Zanes.... I'm gonna lay down my sword and shield--- down by the riverside, down by the riverside, down by the riverside, I'm gonna lay down my sword and shield...study war no more. I ain't gonna study war no war aint gonna study war no more...etc... etc....

Thanks for all the replies!
Don't know how I didn't think of Bob Marley! I knew I was forgetting all kinds of stuff.
I'll definitely be looking into all these.

I'm not so much against war in general, just so frustrated with the state of the world at the moment and hearing songs about revolution, and just big change in general, sort of helps me feel better. Gets me into the mindset that I still can work for change..

I thought of including the new Green Day song-American Idiot-but it's not quite what I want for this. I might use another of their songs, soon as I figure out what it's called.

Keep em coming y'all! This is great.

i really like black boys on mopeds by shinade o'connor..i dunno if id say its revolutionary but it political for sure..

also billy bragg plays some pretty political/revolutionary songs..especially the diggers song(the world turned upside down)which is traditional, but he does a great rendition.

there is LOTS of good revolutionary punk rock songs..but i dunno if thats what you are looking for.

OK, it's hokey, but what about "If I Had a Hammer"--I know that Peter Paul and Mary have a live version and there are probably tons of other artists who have done it. It's about making positive changes in the world (a hammer of justice, a bell of freedom, a song of love between brothers and sisters).

Mustn't forget Gil Scott Heron.. "The Revolution will not be Televised!"

The Late, Great Jeff Buckley had an awesome tune..

The Sky Is A Landfill.

Google the lyrics..a very awesome song that definitely can be applied to the moment politically. It was written during the Clinton Administration though, and he is really talking about television..but I think it works for now as well.

I am going to post the lyrics..brb

The Sky Is A Landfill :: back
(Jeff Buckley / Michael Tighe)
Circle around the park
Joining hands in silence
Watch the evil black the sky

The storm has ripped the shelter
Of illusion from our brow
This power is no mystery to us now.

Leave your spirit genocide
The cancer you won’t remove
We cast our funeral rose inside
And bury the need to prove
Our mutilation is to gain from the system

Ooh, turn your head away
From the screen, oh people
It will tell you nothing more
Don’t suck the milk of flaccid Bill K.
Public’s empty promise
To the people that the public can ignore

This way of life is so devised
To snuff out the mind that moves
Moving with grace the men despise
And women have learned to lose

Throw off your shame or be
a slave to the system

I see you take another drag
One more lost soul to raise your flag
The sky is a landfill
I see you take another drag
Let’s see you take another drag

You like to dance to the rolling
Head of the adulteress
You sing in praise of suicide
We know you’re useless
Like cops at the scene of the crime

With your steroids and your feedbag
And your stable and your trainer
I got a mail bomb for you Mister Strong Arm.

Throw out the stones from all the cemetery homes
For the violence of a nation gone by

Or the politics of weakness
And the garbage dump of souls
That will now black the sky

Their yellow haze and crowds of eyes
Will plug up the mind that moves
Moving with grace the men despise
And women have learned to lose
We’ll share our bodies
In disdain for the system

Oh, I see you take another drag
One nation bends to kiss the hag
The sky is a landfill
I see you take another drag
I see you take another drag
I have no fear of this machine!
