Thanks for the well wishes I'm finally having the chance to write our birth story. Keep in mind, I'm not a fantastic writer, so it's just the facts! lol

newborn pictures

sorry the pictures aren't in the correct order, they kinda got mixed up. Obviously, the preggo ones and the hospital ones come first lol

Sunday I had posted about trying to relax since I think I was really tense about all the "things" I needed to do, labor, etc. I took it easy and rested, etc. That night I took a long bath, shaved my legs, fixed my hair, & got some nookie About 2:00 am I went to the bathroom, after I went back to bed, I still felt some pressure. I laid there for awhile until I knew I was definately feeling something. They weren't like contractions exactly, just cramping. About 2:45 I woke up Matt and told him maybe we should get stuff ready just in case. At that time he started timing them (now they had peaks like contractions), they were steadily 2 1/2 minutes apart. (With Preston I started off with them close together too)

I called my friend at 3:45, she got here with her girls about 4:15, we got to the hospital at 4:30. The hospital had a copy of my birth plan, and I saw several nurses reading over it. The first nurse that admitted us took FOREVER. I laid in the bed for about an hour while she asked me questions, etc. I was monitered for contractions, the baby, and my bp during that time. I kept asking her when she was going to start my antibotics for my group B strep. The doctor and I agreed that after I had them, I could have a hep lock. I was really anxious to get up. After all the paperwork, she checked me and I was at a 4. I was a little dissapointed, b/c I thought I must have been about a 5. I got the antibotics and got up, took a shower, rocked, listened to music. The nurses left me alone, and let me do my thing. At staff change, a nurse came in and told me she volunteered to take me b/c they rarely saw anyone that did thing outside the norm. lol I got in the bed and was relaxing when I noticed my contractions were not as strong. I was monitered for a bit and the nurse noticed it too. So I started walking up and down the halls when at 8:00 my doc got there to check me. I was only at a 4 1/2. I was soo dissapointed, but I knew I hadn't progressed very well. I was suprised too, b/c with both boys I had had them within 6 hours and 4 hours.

She asked about breaking my water, and I agreed at 8:15. She said the baby was really far down, so I felt pretty confident with it. Shortly after, I had (2) 4 MINUTE CONTRACTIONS and was then dilated to a 8. I had several hard contractions and then wanted to push. They called my doc who rushed up. They left the bed like it was, let me sit like I wanted. I just started pushing after she told me I was complete (maybe a bit before). I'd say I pushed through about 5 contractions. With this one, I never felt the pain when he went under the pubic bone like I did with my second. I only felt some burning when he was getting close to being out. The doctor was massaging my perineum really well trying to get it stretched out. There is nothing like her saying, he's almost here, just a few more pushes. That gets ya going! lol After his head was out, I heard her say hold her legs like this so we can get these shoulders through. I was like I pushed and she pulled. lol I remember thinking "wow he must be big!". Then he was out, at 9:15. Dylan Rudy Epperson 10 lbs 2 oz and 22 inches long (they had told us 20 inches, until we took him to the doctor for a checkup) (He nursed 45 minutes after birth, and had a heck of a suction! ) There is nothing like the relief of having a baby out, and then the placenta, sigh the relief! She put him on my chest. They dried him off and then put him inside my gown, next to me. I had to have 6 or 7 stitches, and that was pretty uncomfortable, as was having them mash on my stomach to get I guess blood out.

The nurses were great for the most part. My one complaint was that I was so thirsty and hungry, and it took them forever to bring me anything. My bp was a little low, but shortly after delivery I was able to have the hep lock removed. Apparently, they have a standard pitocin drip after delivery, but didn't require me to have it.

I had requested to be there during newborn procedures, instead they brought everything to the room. They didn't take him to the nursery for anything, until I wanted them to take him for a bit. I don't know that they have done that for anyone. It was pretty neat.

We were moved to a postpartum room that the bed was soo much more comfortable. I heard the nurses in the hall talking about us. They were talking about his weight and my natural labor. They offered me a wheelchair, which I declined. I really felt great. However, I had (and have) horrid after pains. Really bad ones. I had a natural labor, but did not feel guilty one bit for taking the meds the offered me. The pains were so bad, and after I was too tired to deal with them and try to nurse him.

I tried to rest in the hospital, but it was impossible with people coming in and out. Matt had gone home to be with the boys, and he brought them up about 4:00 that afternoon. Spencer wanted to see and hold him. Preston said he didn't like him (and still doesn't )

He roomed with me for the most part. He did have to have some sugar water b/c his sugar was low being a big baby and all. They gave it through a syringe. Also once in the night I had them give him some. I needed some sleep desperately, and he had nursed about 8 times in a row. He slept good after he had it too.

Lets see, we got home about 12:00 pm the next day. Things have been crazy. lol My nipples are cracked and hurting, I can't go to the bathroom very well, (I know TMI!) Matt has been great, Preston wants nothing to do with the baby, Spencer has been whining more than ever. Preston actually told us to take the baby away to the big city. Matt thought it was funny, but I didn't Matt goes back to work on Monday and I'm a little nervous.

He had a checkup yesterday at 5 days old and weighed 9 lbs 15 oz.

That is it with us. Sorry so long!! lol
