I'm going to post a list of questions about our births and our babies. With the replies I'll post an overview...things like the biggest baby at birth, the longest labor, fastest labor, funniest story associated with labor, etc. I think it will be a fun way to of wrap up our pregnancies and births - once all the babies are here of course!

Maybe everyone could post to this thread and once all the baby's have been born (Flitters and Ann) and all the mamas that want to participate have had a chance I'll put all the info together and post our finale!

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth: When I first got pregnant, I was SURE it was a boy. Ever since Oct. 2003, I had a feeling I would have a boy named Isaac in Oct. 2004. So, when I got pregnant in Feb and found out I was due the end of Oct, I was sure it was a boy. Plus, we are Catholic and the feast of St. Isaac Jogue is Oct. 19th, so I was sure the "boy" would be born on St. Isaac Jogue day, Oct. 19th. DD1 was 10 days early, so I thought the "boy" would be 10 days early as well and born on St. Isaac Jogue Day and we would name him Isaac. Well, when we had the ultrasound and found out it was girl, we were very suprised. But, I didn't think a girl named Issac would be very good. Then, when my water broke on the morning of Oct. 19th, I really thought that maybe the ultrasound was wrong and it was a boy after all. I even made sure to pack a gender-neutral going home and picture outfit for the baby. When Greta was born, the first words out of my mouth were "is it still a girl", right up until she was born I was thinking it might be a boy after all. But, we are obviously thrilled with out girl!!

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth: Well I got a little high when they gave me some pain med. I remember exactly when it hit my system. I have never been drunk or high so it was quite an experience. I don't remember everything I said, but I had my nurse and dh laughing. Shocked dh a few times actually as well.

He was sewing up something and one of the OR nurses said something about still getting a tubal...and then said unless you've changed your mind and before we could even say anything, my dr. shouts out "NO, she hasn't!"...it was funny...he was stressing Ella's birth b/c it was my 4th and b/c of all the scar tissue. anyway, we thought it was kinda funny. and i don't know who was more excited about her being a girl...us or our dr.

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth - not funny ha-ha per se but we've nicknamed her "Yoyo" because she was hung up on her short cord that was wrapped twice around her neck, so she was yo-yo-ing up and down in and out of my cervix! silly baby put mommy into transition at least 3 times :LOL

Length of pushing phase or number of pushes if you know.: 47 minutes (Dh says though that it was only 6 pushes, I didn't have close contractions at that time so it might only have been, I was pushing only when I felt the urge)

Number of perineal stiches if a vaginal birth: I have no idea but it took darn near 2 hrs for them to stitch me up, episiotomy tore and I had other tears as well...I don't think my midwife was counting even if I were to ask, I imagine it was too many to count.
Length of stay at hospital/bith centre: 15 hours or so (plus another 4 if you count predelivery)
Number of people in the room when baby was born: quite a few, Dh, my mom, two midwives, two nurses and a student and then right after there was 2 ped.'s and a couple extra nurses but I am not sure if they were in the room before or after.

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth: hmmm, don't really have one...the only thing that strikes me as funny now is that my LMP with Ember was Jan.25 and with Oakley it was Jan.15 and they were born 10 days apart too (which I realized on her B-day when he was 10 days old)...so maybe he wasn't late afterall, seems like my body gestated for the same amount of time. (not really what was intended by the question but I just wanted to share )

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth: I spent 6 weeks doing 10 minutes of daily perineal stretching and massage, since I really wanted to avoid tearing. As my daughter was crowning, I pushed slowly and gently. Out came her head, and my perineum was intact. On the next slight push, her body came sliding out. Her arms had been so tightly crossed that they sprung open with tension and ripped me a couple stitches worth as if to say, "Surprise! Here I am! Mama thought she was getting off without stitches." (Her next act, as I was pulling her onto my body, was to let go of meconium all over my belly. DH found it hilarious - I did not.)

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth mw didnt make it to the birth, she showed up a half hour after the birth. Her assistant made the birth with just enought time to wash her hands, the babies head had already crowned into my panties. I layed in bed for 45 minutes then woke dh so we could start cleaning house and re-arranging cars for more space for mw and her assistant. Layed down shortly before 3 water broke after a few cointractions laying down. Once the water broke the baby was pretty much shot out, poor baby was in shock from being born so fast. I have had zero pain 'down there' which to me is wonderful but shocking, cant believe i could shoot out a baby and not suffer from it :LOL

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth - Apparently during my laborland/transition fog, I was having a running commentary inbetween contractions. Damian told me that I was during great and that I was handling labor beautifully, to which I replied "beautifully? my ass is in the air and I'm moaning like a dying cow?! that's beautiful?!" I'm glad everyone else got a good chuckle. I however was not laughing at the time. Now it gives me the giggles. It was also cute when Aidan told the midwives that when he was a baby and I was squeezing him out, it was so much easier. Squeezing out this baby was hard work. Watching me push didn't bother him at all. He just kept telling me that it was hard work.

I guess what would have been funny would have been if I'd seen him almost laugh, and knocked him out....

Sort of lame - two things come to mind... 1. My water broke while I was on the toilet - how convenient. 2. My epidural wore off and I spent about 2 hours in hard transition without realizing it wasn't supposed to hurt like that with the epidural. I kept saying to my support people 'if this is what labor is like with an epidural I can't imagine how bad it would be without it!'

Funniest story associated with your baby's birth While I was pushing, in between pushes, Jillian would slide back inside - it felt like she was sliding back in a lot more than she actually was. I paused, looked up at my midwives, and in an annoyed tone said, "Are you pushing her back in???!!!" They all laughed and one jokingly responded, "We wouldn't stay in business very long, now would we, if we just pushed all the babies back in?!"

Not funny, but cool: we brought a wind-up double bell alarm clock in with us and placed it next to the bed in the birth center. At one point, a midwife commented that it was 15 minutes too fast. Anyway, after we returned home and set the clock next to our own bed, I noticed it had stopped ticking at 7:29 - the exact time Jillian was born!
