help! does anyone make wooden toys?

DH and I are wanting to learn how to make wooden toys for our ds we are really excited about this and I think my FIL is going to help too!

can anyone suggest some sites/patterns/books for a beginner?

also what supplies do we need (as in saws) I think we have a scroll saw and FIL has some others.

There are lots of free patterns on the net, just look for the item you want to make. As for saws, the band saw is a must. Scroll saws are great for the intricate work but a good band saw is a must. And wait until you make a band saw box! I was the only girl in high school to pick shop so I can build and weld which comes in really handy when you own a house!

The most loved wooden toys around here are 2x4 blocks. My DS and his cousin have them at grandma and Grandpa's house. We started with scrap 2x4s, and cut blocks that are 3 1/2" and 7" long. We made about 50 of them, then my dad got on board and with his far superior woodworking skills, made semi-circles, triangles and a couple little people.
We just sanded the blocks down, and painted or stained them all.
