I hope you wise mamas can help me out. I want to make DS a Waldorf-style Star Prince doll (like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW). BUT, I really want to know if there is a book/story that goes along with it. I've googled it, searched Amazon.com, searched the whole MDC site, and I'm coming up blank.

TIA!

I asked my resident fairytale experts (9yo and 5yo dds) and we came up blank. The 9yo and I thought of a star princESS in The Seven Year Wonder Book by Isabel Wyatt. I haven't read all of her books, though, so there may be a star PRINCE in one of the others.

5yo offered to write a poem about a star prince.

Do you belong to any of the Waldorf yahoo groups like WE_HS or Waldorfhomeschoolers? I imagine there are some for nonhomeschoolers, too. Anyway, that way you'll be targeting hundreds of Waldorf parents. Waldorf parents tend to know lots of fairy tales.

ETA: You might ask a children's librarian to help you. They might have access to some sort of index of fairy tale characters. I don't know if such a thing exists, but wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Hmm...was just browsing through the new catalogue from Rudolph Steiner College bookstore (just got it today), and found on p. 41:

"The Star-Child: A Fable by Oscar Wilde by Jindra Capek A star falls from the winter sky, and two shepherds find a strange infant. One of them takes the baby home and raises him. 32pp Hardbound $19.99"

I'm not familiar with the entire story, but what about The Little Prince? That was the first thing I thought of when I saw him, because of the cover of the book I had on my bookshelf as a kid.

You can read the story here to judge for yourself:

Last night I was looking through Festivals, Family and Food by Diana Carey and Judy Large. There was a story in it for Christmas entitled something like Star Mother's Youngest Child. I'm sure I've heard this story before. The idea is that a little star wants to come down to earth so he can celebrate Christmas like people do. When he gets to Earth he becomes Ugly Child -- his yellow hair sticks out from his head in points, etc. He arrives at the house of a poor widow who doesn't even bother with Christmas, they end up having a wonderful celebration (she grumbles about everything, but he is so sweetly eager to enjoy whatever is available), Ugly Child/Star Child goes back up to the heavens satisfied.

Odd how that I'm finding all these stories about star children now.

These all seem so intriuging - thank you so much! I definitely have a place to start now. I figure my other option is to just make up a story that I like
