Has anyone ever done this with sucess? I was thinking of doing this as christmas gufts, I stumbled upon the idea while searching for a banana bread recipe online. It sounds like a good idea and it says that the bread lasys up to a year sealed like that. It says the bread will slide right out of the jar, is that true?

I can't imagine the bread just sliding out of the jar unless the mouth of the jar was the same size as the rest of the jar, and even then I'd think it would be stuck in there.

Hi...just wanted to say my mum used to bake bread in a glass tube
and that worked really well...but it was just a tube. No lid or bottom
so not sure how it would work with a regular jar. Used to come right
out of the tube though so I don't think it sticks to the glass really more
likely a problem if the lid end tapers in then the bread from the middle
of the jar would be too fat to come out. Did that make sense?

can you post directions for baking in a terra cotta pot?

There are 2 ways that I have been told to bake bread in terra cotta.
First way is to take unused unglazed terra cotta pots and wash
them and then after they are dry coat the inside and out with
vegetable oil and bake in a 375F oven for around 30 minutes. This only
has to be done the first time they are used to season them.
Then after they are cooled you can fill with your favorite bread
dough and bake as normal.
Second way is to just soak the terra cotta pots in water for about
30 minutes before using. Then fill with your dough adn bake as usual.

I have done it the second way and have gotten nice crusty bread from
that. I just have never got around to seasoning any pots since I usually
do this to give as gifts and it is just so much easier to simply soak them
in the water. I usually spray the inside of teh pot with a very light
coating of oil because I am a bit paranoid about it sticking but I don't
know if it is necessary. Hope that made sense!

Don't flower pots have holes at the bottom?
What do you stuff the holes with?
Inquiring minds....

I do this often (the boys think it's cool) and I usually cut a circle of parchment paper to fill in the bottom to cover the hole

So...
Could you put any bread recipe in there?
Like say, cinnamon swirl or something similar?
Sounds like an idea...
