I decided that the Kenmore might now be the best idea. So....How about the Janome 744D? Does anyone have this one? http://janome.janome.com/product_show.php Hmm, the link doesn't take you right to it, but you can look it up on that site.

Or are the Brother http://www.brother-usa.com/Homesewin...1034d_ove.html sergers good enough?

Oh, and just found another one.... The Euro Pro 100-546 http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B0002TUVQ2

I do! I do!
I am on my second Kenmore after the first one spent 9 of it's first 12 months in the shop, and I had to get my dad to go in (a really big, angry guy) and demand me a new serger. If you buy one, but the extended warranty. I actually recommend you look for a secondhand babylock, as you will be a lot happer and they will cost about $100 less.
This Kenmore serger I have now has it's quirks, but it has only been in the shop once in 18 months. I got smart and paid the $$ to take it to a private shop, rather than bring it to Sears for my warranty and have to wait 8 weeks for them to actually fix it.
As far as Necchis, my mom still has her machine, purchased for her as a graduation gift in 1970. It works great, but can be hard to get parts for.

I don't have the 744D but the 634D (which I think is one step down from the 744D). It has been a great machine for me. I've never had any problems with it and it sews great. Got it relatively cheap online too. My only complaint is that it is loud when it sews, but I think all sergers are a bit noisy. HTH!

I have the one step down Janome and it is great. Really smooth and precise.

I got it for 288$ on-line which is cheap for a Janome. I think they were discontinuing it or something because it was way cheaper than the 744.

Janome is a really good brand. I have one and love it.
