I can't figure out 1x1 ribbing

I can't figure out 1x1 ribbing for the soaker I am trying to make. Perhaps it is a bit above my knitting level but I need to figure this out.

Whatever I am doing does not look right at all! I am doing what my book tells me to so and that is knit 1 purl 1.
BTW I am doing this on a circular needle if that helps you help me.

You're working in the round, right? Do you have an even number of stitches on your needle? If you've got an odd number, you'll end up with seed stitch.

Of course, if that's not it, I can't say what it would be without seeing a picture of the knitting.

I'm not about to post a picture of it :LOL

I seriously must be doing something really wrong.

I keep stopping myself before I even finish the row. Is it suppossed to very obviously resemble the rib in the first row?

I think it would look like ribbing in the first row, yes. Hmm...

When you bring the yarn forward to purl, you're doing that before you insert your needle in the stitch to purl it, yes? And when you bring the yarn to the back to knit, you're doing it before you insert the needle in the next stitch to knit it?

Hmm... I'm out of ideas for the night, LOL. Do you have a yarn shop locally that you can take it to for pointers if you can't figure it out tonight?

It won't start to look like rib until about the third or fourth row. Also, count to make sure you have an even number of stitches.
