MHL - im sorry! That sucks I'm always telling dh..."someday I want NICE towels" LOL
post #42 of 70
Goals for today:
Shave legs
Cut toenails

Quite the endeavor when you are as big as a whale!
Amanda -- :LOL I told my dh I'd shave my legs once every other week, whether I needed it or not! :LOL

mhl -- I feel your pain -- our toilet overflowed a couple months ago -- we were out $1100...the homeowners insurance is picking up the other $330...it went under the walls into the closet & into ds's bedroom (& into ours as it was the master bath). Not fun -- our towels are already pretty crappy, though, so none of them were ruined, and if a few were, we had no problem just tossing them into the garbage.

Thanks guys. I was so happy that everything worked out well. I am so sad about my towels. The ones that got ruined were the ones I used for the guest room. My personal towels are wally world specials but these were egyptian cotton bath sheets. I think I may cry.

Luckily, we have a steam vac that I bought a few months back and could clean everything really well with that. Everything is cleaner than it was since DH is a DEEP cleaner and always goes overboard. He's off to lowes to buy a new toilet ring things to re set the toilet where it's tight and won't wobble then he's going to scrub (with siftscrub, thanks!!) the bathtubs and tile. He got the day off to help fix all this and I intend to make him use it up to the max.

I got my birth kits today!! It was like 5 things but hey, it's exciting.
The amnicots are strange. Little finger gloves with a hook on them. So, i'm totally done on the birth supplies other than vodka for the tincture, paper for the print and a hose.

Wonder what kind of paper for the print? Anyone?

Anyway, I'm thankful for how today has gone. It ended up costing 50 bucks to rent the roto rooter and another 30 in clean up supplies but hey it could have been ALOT worse and costly. Thank goodness it was not more than I had to spend. I already got a nice thank you card in the mail to moms DH. I'm asking my DH for towels for Christmas!

HI ladies!

It is incredible to me that some of you could have your babies any minute now! I can't wait to hear about the births, and be new Mamas together! YAY!

My friends had a Blessing Way for me on Monday. It was really nice. My midwife and her assistant came, and my friend who lives 3 hours away drove up and spent the night. The hostess made me a medicine pouch and everyone brought me a little something to put in it. Mostly it was all crystals (we're pretty into metaphysics around here), but my friend who blows glass made me a little pregnant lady in my favorite color galss. Thats may favorite thing I got. They were all so thoughtful and had great blessings for me and my family. And they got a luxurious chocolate cake from my favorite gourmet bakery! It was decorated with live roses. And they brought me flowers, with lots of Lilies (my fav. flower, of course), so now my house smells soooooo good! I never got to have anything like this for DD, so it really meant a lot to me.

Yesterday the baby was doing something new. And it hurt bad. : I have no idea what it was sitting on, but I could barely move it hurt so bad. It was a stabbing pain down very low (possibly my cervix or bladder?) and everytime I bent over, sat down, or took a deep breath, OWWWWIE! At one point I thought I was gonna have to try peeing standing up b/c sitting on the toilet was just more than I could take! So I decided to go to my Yoga class and maybe that would help, and it did thank god! In fact, this is the first morning in several weeks I haven't woken up in pain. I am definitely going to go to Yoga 2x week until the baby is born.

After next week (36 weeks), I will be meeting with my Midwife every week until the birth. And after next week i can safely have a homebirth too. I am so excited! I can't wait to meet the baby.

Hmmm...not too much else going on here. Just getting ready and trying to keep my house clean, instead of clean 1 day and warzone-ish the rest of the time. That way if the baby comes sooner than later, I'm not going OMG I haven't cleaned the house in a week! :LOL

Have a great day!

i saw my mw yesterday. she says i am 1/2 centimeter dialated and starting to efface...yippee! 1/2 a cent. sounds like a lot to me but then i think, if i can only dialate this much more 19 more times ill be all set lol.

when i walk i feel like danny devito as penguin in Batman the Movie. feels like there is a round, little head right between my legs...mw said the baby has started to drop and she could feel his/her head through my cervix. i am getting very, very excited.

i feel kinda achy down there though, not painful, but achy. its a strange feeling, but i can only think that maybe it is the baby's head.

i must remind myself how blessed i am to live where i do. in maine we have a healthcare program that provides free health care for all pregnant women in the state. meaning everything, including the birth and all mw appt, are covered fully by the state. on top of that, i am realizing that the hospital that i going to is far ahead of their time than most. i asked my midwife a whole slew of questions yesterday and she told me...

...the lights in the LDR rooms (LDR rooms...ahhh what a relief to not have to be shuffled around huh?) are on a dimmer switch and are not harsh, florescent bulbs. she said she will not let the lights be on fully during birth...she has as few on as possible. yeah

...dh can sit behind me in a birthing tub they wheel into your room.

...she allows skin to skin contact, mama to baby, for a hour before they do any weighing, measuring, etc.

...she will wait till the cord stops pulsating to cut it.

i am feeling so much more at ease with my choice of hospitals. i feel very fortunate.

she also will waive any procedure i do not want done to the baby following birth. i am firm on the use of oral vitamin K, but since i am having a hospital birth i do want the eye ointment. i know the baby wont catch chlamydia (sp) or gonorhea (sp) from me, but its the nurses or god-forbide the mw, who worry me.

i dont know much about the hep B shot, but i am going to find out more now!!

Wow NeKisha

Your hospital sounds awesome! You are really lucky to have such a an open minded place to give birth. Good luck, it sounds like you'll be there in the next week or so!

I got my pool from Quality Inflatables today- yippee! Lula was really excited to see it. I told her she can get in there with me.

I also got a shipment of Kissaluvs diapers that DP's mom bought for us. Ohhh, are those ever soft! I had Mother-Ease diapers with Lula, and they were fine, but these are just so scrumptious I want to eat them! I got the Colors! ones, and they're just so pretty. I can't wait to have a baby butt to put in them.

We're trying to sell our house, but our realtor keeps reminding us that it's a bad time of year and nobody really wants to move. That said, we've had 3 separate showings scheduled this week, and yesterday's buyers are coming again today- they seem pretty interested. The only problem is, they've already sold their house in Chattanooga, and need to close on a new one by Dec. 17th! This baby is due Dec. 10th! I'm so conflicted over whether I really WANT them to buy our house. Will I already have a newborn? Will I be postdates and waiting, and go into labor our first night in the new house? HOW WILL WE PACK EVERYTHING? DP says we'll just have to take it as it comes, and I guess he's right.

Hey NeKisha, have you looked into waiting until you deliver the placenta to cut the cord? There's evidence that blood transfer still occurs even after visible pulsation has stopped, and there's benefit to the mother as well to wait (if all the blood that your baby is supposed to get is out of the placenta, it's easier for it to detach and come out, and less chance of hemmorhage because your uterus can clamp down harder.) With my first birth, my midwife also said she'd wait until the cord stopped pulsing, and cut it a couple of minutes after Lula was born. But Lula had trouble establishing regular breathing, even though she had no mucus or obstructions- I firmly believe she just needed more oxygen through the cord for a while. She was suctioned until she BLED from her nose, but there was nothing in there. It caused us to have a heck of a time breastfeeding because of the swelling and trauma. Just look in to it.

Kristi, That's interesting info. I haven't been able to decide when I want the cord clamped or cut. Of course once it's clamped it doesn't matter when you cut it. I like the idea of waiting but am afraid of the baby getting so much blood that he gets jaundice. I hear so many conflicting points, all of them good points.

So far all I can decide is that I want them to wait until it stops pulsing but not until the placenta is delivered neccesarily. It's confusing straying from the norm isn't it? It's much easier to be one of those women who just let someone choose for them and go along with the flow. I just can't do it this time.

I've read some conflicting things too. But in the end my gut tells me to go with those who say wait until the placenta is out. Maybe you'd want to PM Pamamidwife about it- I don't know about you, but I trust her a lot! We just had this little thread on the same subject: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=216894

On the topic of jaundice, it really makes me when it is shown that FF babies do not get such levels as jaundice as BF babies do. That makes me think that it is necessary, and that it is not a bad thing. I mean obviously FF babies are not better off than their BFed counterparts.

The question should be not why are BF babies getting jaundice, but why aren't FF babies getting it???

YAY! Good for you! I'm so glad you are good with the BP thing. Wow, I can't believe you are progressing that fast. You only have to efface 50 more percent and dialate 8 more cm.!!!!!!

That's great MommyAmanda! So glad to hear everything is great again

Interesting... we just got back from our "childbirth refresher" class at the hospital, and as I was reading this thread I realized that when the nurse was explaining what would happen in the delivery room - she said that when the baby was delivered it would be given to mom, and that when the placenta was delivered they would cut the cord. I didn't think anything about it at the time, but reading this it came back to me and I just asked dh and he confirms, that's definitely what she said! I'll have to ask my dr. about that.

We got a much more detailed tour of where we'll be in the hospital, which is a main reason I wanted to take this class because this hospital is new to us. I am impressed. They don't keep the babies in the nursery at all... with ds #1 they were practically begging to take him "so we could get some sleep". And she said in the last 6 months they are becoming more baby-friendly, which means they are no longer handing out formula samples, diaper bags or literature from formula companies at all. They give out a nice black diaper bag with the name of the hospital on it instead. With ds #1 I had to really be firm with almost all of the nurses because they kept wanting to give him formula or a pacifier, and I was even told by one young nurse that "nipple confusion is a bunch of bull" - so I was glad to hear at this hospital that they are taught to encourage breastfeeding.

37 Weeks!!!

So, I am now able to have this baby at home legally. LOL I can't believe it is already so close. I have been having a hard week, emotionally, and husband wise. He is just killing me with his lack of understanding...I am weepy, and worried, and so not ready to birth this little gal yet. Part of it may be knowing she will be my last one...I am so young still, and saying that is so final...but I don't even really want anymore than four. LOL Like I said emotional. LOL I still have so much to do , and money is so tight, I'm afraid I won't have everything done in time...I wish my hubby were more understanding about the house being ready. Last time he was up at two in the morning cleaning, while I labored alone. I really just want things to be calm and ready. You know? <sigh> Hope everyone has a good weekend!!

37 weeks today! Fully Cooked!

Its so cool to know that he could be here any time (or in 5 weeks, lol, argh!)

I really feel like my body is preparing -- lots of back and low pelvis discomfort, increased vag. discharge, looser bowels, (TMI!!), emotional, zits on my face, tired! Then bursts of energy where I feel amazing -- like after yoga yesterday.

we put the waterproof matress pad on the bed two nights ago -- and it adds just a bit of firmness and softness and I'm sleeping good again.

I have a HUGE project at work this weekend, done tomorrow around 2pm -- then I expect this guy to come any time!! I am tempted to ask my nurse to check me at my next appoinment (Wednesday) but I can't decide. I dont' want to focus on "numbers" but I AM curious!

I am so glad to hear that everyone's doctor's appointments are going well ... I am nervous about getting my group b strep test back -- I hope its negative!

I am going to post belly pics next, and then, in a bit, two separate vents -- but I didn't want to make this a negative post, and the vents are negative (one about my dr., one about a friend who loves pain relief) -- but I am so darn happy and ready for this baby that I want this post to be only about that!!!

AND -- we got our first set of diaper covers from Sunshine at Flutterbybaby -- they are GORGEOUS!!! DH cried.

37 weeks today too!!

And it's my birthday! :LOL 26...My mom was pregnant with her 4th child 4 months after her 26th birthday -- I guess I'm a bit behind! :LOL

I just got back from Walmart (yuck...but budget beat ethics this week...), and I got a cute little onesie that says "I'm the little brother," a pack of 3 sportsbras that look thin enough to just tug down, and some hanes underwear for PP use -- I decided to put snaps in them to snap my pads into -- I'm just so worried they'll shift -- my paper/disposable pads always did -- that's why I used tampons (until I bought my keeper that I got to use...3 times! That was a good investment ). I also bought some of their cheapo washclothes -- I'm going really extreme & going to use them for toilet paper & just toss them in with the dirty dipes. I was freaked out about this a few months ago (I thought eewwwww), but then I was stranded w/o tp in the bathroom & had to grab one of ds's washclothes (thank goodness there was a stack of them, or I REALLY would have been stranded!), and it was soooo comfortable. Now all I can think about is how tp disinigrates (sp?) so easily & how much of that is rubbing off in/on me & contributing to my chronic bladder infections, etc., ya know? Well...talk about tmi, lol!

Anywho...I'm really feeling "stuff" happening now -- I was also having some mild bh, but they didn't feel mild when I was walking around & pushing a cart, kwim? Kinda like you said, Rainy. I should probably start sleeping with a towel under me, but with ds moving around all the time I'd have to cover the entire bed, kwim? I just can't bring myself to put the shower curtain & extra sheet on the bed to sleep on (sweaty back!!), so I'll just hope for the best, lol.

Well, ds is asleep, so I'm going to get to work doin' something...! My friend is supposed to come over today & sew with me (she is bringing her serger ).
