Would this work for making a felted wool ball?

Dd absoultely loves my balls of wool when I crochet and I thought for Christmas she would like her own. I have some extra virgin wool and I thought I could wrap it in a ball and the do the hot water and cold water thing. Would this stay together and work? TIA!

it's gotta be wool roving or batt, you can't use wool yarn to do felted balls (unless you knit a ball and felt that, LOL)

chiromama - those directions look great but all I have is actual yarn so I guess I will have to crochet them (can't knit). I did find this pattern and it is perfect for what I wanted to do in case anyone else is interested.
