Question about homemade kahlua

Hi,

I made kahlua a couple of years ago using someone's recipe from these boards. It was fantastic!! The thing is, I want to do it again this year but I've waited too long -- that recipe takes 2-4 months. I've found many recipes online that are ready almost instantly, but I have no idea if they're any good.

So my question is: Has anyone used a "quick" kahlua recipe that turned out really good? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Scout

Are you talking about kalhua made from vodka?

Izzybee -- Yup, from vodka.

OMG, I am so craving this right now!!! I may have to make some myself.

1 qt water
2 1/2 c Sugar
3 tb Instant coffee
1 tb Vanilla
2 1/2 c Vodka

Bring water, sugar and coffee to a boil in a saucepan.
Simmer VERY slowly for 3 hours. Mixture will be very dark
and syrupy. Cool. Add vanilla and vodka. Makes 7 cups.

Thanks so much, Izzybee. I've seen that recipe before (or one similar), but it is so different from the one I tried, I'm skeptical. Can you vouch for its goodness? Does it really taste similar to the kind you buy?

Thanks again!!

If you don't like the way it tastes when you first try it, keep drinking, before you know it, it won't matter anymore.

But seriously, ut tastes very similar to the one you buy.

Ha, that's great! I'm sure you're right. I won't be drinking any this winter, however, with baby on the way. If anyone says it tastes funny (not that they would... I mean it's a homemade gift, made with vodka for cryin out loud!) I'll just tell them to drink more.

Many thanks for the recipe!

Seriously, dh and I are making this today *LOL* maybe even make a few Christmas kahluas if I can find some cool bottles. Does this keep ok??

I guess the vodka would keep it good, right??

HAHA!! That is something I will NEVER know!

Here's another quick one, for pumpkin pie shots

Fill 1/2 a shot glass with kalhua,
1/2 the same shot glass with Irish Cream (doesn't have to be Baileys)
top it off with a little bit of Goldshlagger,
light it up, and sprinkle cinamon on it, the cinamon will sparkle.
Chug it down. That is sooooooo good!

I had this when I was in nursing school and am making dh get all the ingredients so I can make it again...it tastes JUST LIKE IT

OATMEAL COOKIE SHOT

Scale ingredients to servings
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
1/2 oz Butterscotch Schnapps
1/2 oz Bailey's Irish Cream

Pour ingredients into a stainless steel shaker over ice, and shake until completely cold. Strain into an old-fashioned glass, and serve.

There's also a shot that tastes JUST like a tootsie pop but I can't find it yet..and the apple pie shot, it's good too...

anyone know any GREAT punch recipes??

Here's the recipe for a kahlua that takes up to 4 months. This came from someone on these boards (j&g's mom) a few years ago. I've made and it is scrumptious!

Kahlua
Ready in 2 to 4 months
Makes about 1 1/2 quarts

2 cups water
1/4 plus 2 Tbs instant coffee (freshly opened jar)
3 1/2 c granulated sugar
1 vanilla bean split
2 3/4 cups vodka
3/4 c brandy
1/4 tsp choc. extract
1 drop red food coloring

heat water in med. saucepan. When hot, add coffee and stir until dissolved. Add sugar and vanilla bean, stirring well to combine. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Immediately reduce heat so that a very low boil is maintained for 1 minute. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm.
Pour vodka and brandy into a jar or container. Add the cooled coffee mixture and the chocolate extract. Stir well. Cap and let age in a cool dark place for 3 weeks. After initial aging, strain liqueur though a cloth lined wire mest strainer over a large bowl. Repeat until desired clarity is reached Stir in food coloring. Bottle cap and let age an additional 1 to 3 months.
