Is just-four y.o. too early to start losing teeth?

I just noticed that my almost-four-year old's two front top teeth have changed. One is definitely now longer than the other when they used to be even. Could that be the adult tooth pushing it's way in? I keep checking it to see if it is getting loose. So far, not that I can tell, but is this possible?

I lost my first tooth before I turned 5. I had lost them all before I was 10 (well except for one that refused to fall out and had to have pulled when I was 12). So I think its very possible.

I don't have an answer, but I found out from my dentist a few days ago (when my 5.5 yo's tooth was knocked and temporarily loosened) that the roots of his teeth (all of them? just the bottom center ones?) are about 1/3 the length they once were, in preparation to fall out. I thought that was interesting.

He said teeth usually start falling out at about 5.5 or 6 (earlier for girls). Not-quite-four does seem awfully early to be actually loosing teeth, but maybe they are just adjusting a bit somehow. If your dd has a cleaning coming up I'd recommend just pointing it out and seeing what your dentist has to say.

Could the shorter one have possibly been pushed in by a bunp? that happened to my daughter. She is 5 1/2 and has already lost 2 teeth, and has another loose one already. 4 is a little young for loose teeth, but I don't think unusually so.

Aloha! It's definitely worth getting checked, but to ease your mind a little my sister and I also lost our first teeth before 4, and several more the following year. I believe I only "lost" one tooth due to an unfortunate meeting with a bedpost, but for all of the rest my adult teeth came in first and virtually pushed them out...
