Ok...so I love the yarns there, but am confused...there is not much info for the different types. Does anyone know if the Boucle 100% wool? Which weight would be best for longies? The worsted weight? And how many ounces is a 100grams? LOL Can anyone help me please?
TIA~Debi

I just finished longies made from their handpainted handspun bulky 100% wool. I like working with bulky because it goes so fast. I've heard that the merino worsted weight is extremely soft. I must say I was impressed with the softness of the wool that I got that wasn't merino, it is the softest wool I have felt. I know that sometimes they carry bulky merino, which I would love to try, but they have been out of stock for a while.

I got 3 skeins and ended up only using two with leftovers for medium pants. My only complaint, and I'm sure this may be par for the course with handspun handpainted yarn, is that the consistency is not the same among the skeins. When I llook at my pants I can tell where I started the new skein because the color is slightly different, and the gauge is somehow different. It's almost like one skein was a true bulky and the other was a worsted, because about a quarter of the skein was spun so thinly that I thought it may break while I was knitting!

On the whole, beautiful colors, soft yarn, and with the variegated colors the difference between the skeins is not that obvious.

Hi Debi I think the bulky and the worsted are best for longies, but I have also made some with the sock merino - it's thinner and therefore probably more suited for spring/summer/fall, but I've been using it on the not so cold days or at night. I'm pretty sure all their yarn is 100% wool, but you could email them to be sure. Not sure about the weight thing... actually, I just did a google search and I got 100g = 3.3 or 3.5 oz

I've so far only used the bulky and sock merino for longies and it's soooo soft and great to work with, but I just got some of the handspun 100% worsted wool and it's really soft too. I can't wait to try it out. I also got some worsted merino and I love it too. All the different choices are confusing, but I think overall you can't go wrong with anything merino or really any of their yarn for that matter.

norcalmommy - do you think the second skein might have been a different weight yarn? It happened to me once before that I ordered 2 skeins of sock merino, but they sent me one sock and one bulky merino accidently...

Yes, I suspect it's worsted weight. But...they don't list worsted weight in this colorway (oceanos) that I could find on their site, so who knows? As my dh said, "Do you think [ds] will tell the difference?" Well...no, but I can!

100 grams is about 3.5 oz. The boucle is 100% wool.

I think Grace was wearing brown pants right? If she was, both those and the ones I was working on are made with the bulky merino from hpy, except I think they are out of stock at their site. I know a mama who emailed them to find out when it would be back in and they told her a couple weeks and that was about a week and a half ago. I just received some of the worsted merino and I have to say it's probably just about the same as the bulky(maybe just a teensy bit thinner) although I haven't knit with it yet...

I have made pants out of their worsted and bulky merino. The bulky made much better pants, imo. They are both dreamy and soft, but the worsted weight just didn't have enough structure to it. It was almost kind of melty. Still I think the pants make great jammies, but they were too droopy for running around in. The ones I made from the bulky merino are just right, though. I think the worsted would make great soakers, just not pants.

They also have an eBay store---I think the name is Serendipity in South America.

For those who've ordered from them, how did you find their customer service? I read on another knitting site that they're extremely slow to ship, so I've held off from ordering...

I have ordered several times from the company both off the website and eBay, and I've never waited longer than a week to receive my order. Their USA warehouse is in South Florida, so the shipping was slow during the hurricanes, but that was an abnormal situation. It's back to normal now.

I've never had a problem w/it taking long to get here. I've ordered from them off of ebay a few times and was always pleased w/the shipping and the owner couldn't be nicer. Plus, I have always received a delivery confirmation number and an email stating when it was shipped.
I really couldn't be happier with them.

'Course my yarn budget is pretty tight, lol, so I need to think it over a bit more. I really love that purple/blue merino, though

Oooh, I love those colors! I almost got the cinnabar one time.
I do have the blueberries (in a super bulky merino) and it is sooo pretty!

Good choices!

I am making some longies out of the handpainted bulky in Berries and I am loving it. It is soooo soft and the colors are prettier irl than on my monitor. shipping took about 2 weeks for me, but they emailed me right after my order (on a sunday night) and said that my order wouldnt be picked up until Friday and then I got it one week from then. so no biggie. i am begging my mama for a gift certificate for christmas!
