Where does Vitamin E Come from?

Is that a dumb question? I had a bottle of "pure vitamin E" oil for years. I dab it under my eyes and on my lips at night before bed. But I ran out -- and in looking to buy some new stuff, I realized-- I dont even understand what this oil is derived from???

Also, I;ve heard beauty "experts" on a couple different tv shows and mag articles talk about popping vit e pills to use on your skin -- and that this is more economical than buying a bottle of vit e. But I don't get that. I think I can buy more oz for less in a bottle--if only I knew where the hell the stuff came from (gosh, this is buggin' me!)

Thanks!

I still don't get it. Okay-- I JUST bought a new bottle of vit e. On the label it says 40,000i.u. What does THAT mean? Also, in the ingredients list it says: Pure vitamin e with grapeseed oil, caledula oil. But whatdoes it come "pure" from??? It's not like there is a "vit e" tree. I'm stumped!!!

Anyone???

I just did a google search and came up with this:

Quote:
Natural-source Vitamin E is produced from a by-product of edible vegetable oil. While synthetic Vitamin E is made in a laboratory and produced from petrochemicals, and turpentine. It costs far less to produce than the natural-source Vitamin E.

So, how do you tell the difference? If the label says d (example: d-alpha tocopherol) that is natural. If it says dl (example dl-alpha tocopherol) that is synthetic.

OK, I'm not positive, so you might try a Google search, but I think it comes from soybeans.
