I need someone's good writing skills!!!

Last month I submitted an article to the local, radical, university 'zine about gender and children. Basically I was talking about the sexism that young boys encounter and raising my son to be a human, not a male. At the end of the piece I add that circ is mutilation and to stop subjecting our boys to this violence. The latest issue has a letter from one of the collective members (I don't know who it is) and what irks me the most about it was that he was trying to saying that he is circ'd and glad that he is, he's got no problems (he's in his early twenties) and that it is not mutilation. His biggest reason for thinking it's okay is that uncirc'd men choose to be circ'd when they are adults. The rest of his letter bothered me too but I think it best to leave his issues about my gender article alone. I really feel I must submit an article about circumsion for the next issue. I don't want to address a letter to him personally but to give a good informative piece about why it is mutilation and why children shouldn't be circ'd. I was hoping someone here has perhaps written something in the past that I could submit. I don't think I have enough info I could relate and write a good piece with and I really think it's important to have a good anti-circ article. I am not trying to convince him but I think that a lot of people have no real info about circ and it needs to be out there. Can anyone help me? Is anyone willing to share something they've written? I wouldn't address the piece as being from me, I would give credit to whomever wrote it, and sorry, there is no money is this.

I've written a short article on circumcision. PM me if you are interested in reading it. I don't know if it is what you are looking for or not.

Thank you for replying so quickly!

I think it would be really effective to write a piece on how male and female circs are essentially equivalent - both the reasons they are done and the physical effects of removing half the erogeneous tissue. I bet that would really get your readers' attention - can you imagine someone writing in to defend female circ?

I'll be glad to help. Just PM me.

That is a really good idea. I don't think people know, in the physiological sense, how similar the two are. And you're right, no one would be publicly saying it's okay to circ females. Do you know where I could get that info?

And FYI: there are support groups for Men who WANT their foreskins back! And a surgery they can have to give them a foreskin...although I doubt they'd do it without anaesthesia....why they think it's ok to do this to babies, I have no idea! grrrr........

Yes, there is a restoration surgery . . . Actually, it is 3-4 surgeries spread out over 9 months to a year and the cost is $30-$40,000.00. As far as I know, there are only two doctors in North America that will do it, One in California and one in Canada. The really odd thing is that the men who want it done have to go through a battery of psychological testing to see if they are mentally fit to qualify for the procedure. Why doesn't a parent have to go through a battery of psychological testing to get it cut off in thr first place? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Something is seriously backward here!

I did get your PM, thank you!
Unfortunately, I cannot send a PM, for some strange reason ...
Is it okay if I use your article, or parts of it, and the link for where to find it online?

I would like to use info from the first two links (mostly because they are shorter!), do you know if I have to get permission from the authors or the website to use the info? Do you know if any of the info, from any of the links, is copyrighted?

I have no idea....you'd have to see what the websites say or contact the site owners. I think if you use information but cite your sources you're fine. As long as you don't lift wholesale out of the articles and claim it as your own, it's not a violation of copyright.
