First the good news...

A friend of mine is pregnant with a boy. I had sent her some information and links, but was not sure of the outcome. She came to my house the other day to pick up some baby stuff I was donating, and we talk about circumcision.

She told me she was not going to circumcise!!! She showed the links to her dh and they could not believe how the procedure was done.

As she was leaving, I gave her some more circ info along with the NOCIRC newsletter. The front page discussed female circumcision and she freaked out. She did not think anybody did this anymore. So I told her that the rest of the world thinks we are barbarians. Why is it different? We circ our little boys for the same reasons little girls are cir in other parts of the world.

Her eyes got wide and I could see the full impact of what circumcision really is. She finally thought outside the box.

Well, for the bad news. My dh co-worker had their baby and they circ. Not only that, but he was circ in a teaching hospital. I suspect he was probably circ by a OB resident.

Guess what, the little guy has a fever now and my dh called me to get advice. I wanted to tell him to tell the father that thanks to the wonderful way he welcomed his baby into the world, he probably has develped an infection.

I gave them advice, but I felt so bad for this baby.

I am just sick over a co-worker's choice to circumcise as well. I gave her some articles on it when she was pregnant but I could kinda tell by what she said later that she was going to. She said to me, "My husband and I looked at the information you gave us and appreciate it." That was it. No statement about what their choice was. I let it go because I feel like there is a line you can't cross professionally, but she just had her baby a few days ago and another co-worker who visited her in the hospital mentioned the circumcision in passing. She said, "When I got there he was refusing to nurse, but then he had just been circumcised so maybe he didn't feel like it." Oh, you think??? I am so angry at her!!! This woman has a Ph.D. and was given information about circ being harmful and unnecessary, and she still did this ignorant barbaric thing. I am dreading when she brings the baby in for a visit because all I will be able to think about is how she deliberately allowed her child to be harmed.

Why do people do this???!!!
