anyone have any good/clever ideas for telling family members?

I thought we would slip a pic of Dylan in our xmas cards with him wearing a "big brother" bib or shirt or something. see how fast everyone catches on. :LOL

I'm telling them this story:

Friday after Thanksgiving, ds was telling dh and me a story. In the middle of it, he interrupted himself to say "and I am going to have a baby sister" and then resumed his story. Later that day while he was napping, I went to the store and got a p-test, took it, and it was positive!

Not as creative as rainbowmoon, but I like the story!!!

How I told my dh: he was napping, too, when I took the test.
I woke him up and showed him the stick and said "can you see it?" and he said "it looks like a line" and I said "yup!" and he said "can I finish my nap now?" :LOL
For a few days he was calling the baby a "stripe" but now that I've taken three tests I think he believes me.

I've already told my family, but he has yet to tell his. He said he wants to wait until it's verified by "someone in a lab coat" :LOL He's very funny. He'll probably tell them this week even before I get to see a doc or midwife.

I got this idea from another online forum and used it with my firstborn on Labor Day weekend last year.

Our family gets together every year at our house. When the time came for the big picture, I said, OK, I'm going to take 2 pictures, so stay where you are:

Then I said, "OK, say CHEESE!" for the first one.,
Then, for the 2nd one, I said, "OK, say: WE'RE HAVING A BABY!".

It was hilarious. Family members couldn't figure out why I said that. Then, some of them "got it". I also rubbed my belly and said, "Yup, we're 11 weeks along..". Then, everyone ran around hugging, kissing, screaming and crying. It was better than winning the lottery.

My sister also had her first-born wear a t-shirt at a previous get together that read at "Baby brother or sister in March 2003". That was really cute too.

I am looking for Ideas on how to tell my family too!

I just found out I am pregnant with #2 and am quite worried about telling my mom. Although I am 27 her love and reaction mean a lot to me.
She embraced my first experience quite well, although I am a single mom. She is helping me take care of my daughtar so I can go to school full time and graduate in March.
Anyways, long story short, I know she is going to be upset since my boyfriend and I are not married, and because she wanted me to be more finantially stable before expanding my family. So I am not sure how to put it so that she embraces the moment.
Any ideas will be of great help.

When we found out we were having #1, I made everyone Easter baskets, and put a pacifier in it. They all knew we were trying, so it was really fun. I guess my idea (if you can stand to wait) is to do the same with a stocking, or Christmas Gift.

You could wrap a 'grandma of 2' shirt or something under the tree.

I'll keep thinking... The holiday season has many opportunities to do more than I did (just call and blab).

I've seen a couple of cute ideas on other boards. My favorites are:

1. give a christmas gift of a double picture frame. One side has a picture of your child, your current family, or you and DH (whatever), and the other has a "Coming in August 2005" sign
2. place a hamburger bun with a bow on top in the oven, have them over for dinner and ask someone (Mom?) to "get something out of the oven" for you

I'm trying to talk DH into the picture frame one for his family (we tested at my parent's house on T-day, so they already know), but I don't think he'll be able to wait that long. Plus, they already have 7 grandkids including our older children, so it probably won't be that exciting for them (they are pretty unsupportive all around anyway). It would still be fun, though.

telling my mom at Christmas

I'm having a hard time keeping this news to myself! I know it's early, but....

We are are going to visit my mom for Christmas. She always knits blankets for new babies in the family, so for one of her presents I am going to give her a package with all the yarn for the blanket. Hopefully it won't take her too long to figure it out! I can't wait to tell her--I think it may be the funnest part.

We let my mom know she was going to be a grandma for the first time by having her open a pair of booties as a Christmas present. It took a minute for it all to register, but then her eyes welled up with tears!

We just told our immediate family straight out the first time around when I was only a few weeks along. This time, we want to keep it a secret much longer - maybe even 4 or 5 months. They made too big a deal of it last time. (I know, it is a big deal, but it only added to the exhaustion, and I have this ridiculous notion that telling my MIL is bad luck - but that's another thread ) So when the time comes to tell them, I'd like to do it a little less obvious - like a picture of DD wearing a big sister shirt or something. That's a really cute idea. I also like the bun in the oven one, but our families live too far to come for dinner much.

we have a supper cute idea (we as in me and my dh is going along with it!) and , yes any one can use it if they want:

we are seeing my entire family for xmas and i am writing a poem/riddle about me being pregnant on card stock paper and and then cutting it out into puzzle peices and putting a piece in everyone's stocking.....
( mine and hubby's included) we will have to come together to first to put the puzzle together and then we will read it. here is the poem:

on this merry xmas day,
i have brought us all together in this way
to remind us of soemthing that i hav efound to be true
about being in a family with all of you
as an individual puzzle peice, each of us is unique
however, only when we come together do we become complete
to this loving group of kin
elders and children, women and men
i want suggest that we make room for another member, this we must,
b/c someone is pregnant and due in august!

i can just imagine them all looking around and accusing eachother! (i have 3 other adult sisters.....)
it has been killing me not to tell, i have a big mouth!
but the idea of the surprise is worth it!
and yes! i used to be a first grade teacher so i am just full of silly games and such!

We sent a darling cloth diaper to my MIL for Christmas and had her open at the Christmas gathering with all of DH's relatives, in it was a note that said,"Better start practicing for the newest member of the (our)family due August 2005!" She called us and was in tears with happiness, DH is the youngest of 9 and it's been 16 years since a baby in the family! It was fun! We did the same for my family at a family gathering the week before Christmas! Oh the looks on their faces were priceless!
