Question about effacement

I checked my cervix yesterday (I'd been feeling a lot of pelvic pressure the last few days) and, well to describe it best, there was basically NO cervix there at all! I was able to find it, but it is completely flat. For those who might know, does this have anything to do with effacement?

when your cervix effaces, it essentially flattens out. At this point in pregnancy, as well, everything starts to soften in your vagina, so it could still be considered "long", but compared to what you're used to feeling pre-pregnancy it's not. does that make sense? it's early and I don't know if I'm explaining well.
I was feeling for my cervix the other day (at 33 weeks) and it was way far back and hard to feel because of my big belly.
