Dads with nursing partners--when the mother is nursing and
thus not drinking, do you go dry as well?

I don't mean a ban on drinking vodka until you are blue
in the face, but also not drinking a beer at night or not
having a glass of wine at dinner.

What is the etiquette if you do drink in front of nursing mom?

Or do you never lift a glass in front of her?

I mostly opted for full ban in solidarity...but, heck, sometimes
I do wish I had a whiskey.

May I speak for my Dh?

Dh has an occasional beer, but I don't like beer, even when it was promoted as a milk-enhancer, I still couldn't stomach it. So it's not like he's sitting in front of me indulging while I'm feeling deprived. Sometimes we'll split a glass of wine; I'll have one sip and he'll have the rest. I don't think Dd has been adversely affected by my occasional sip.

Our differences have more to do with my diet while nursing and the way both of us would prefer Dd learned to eat. With rare exceptions I eat only organic food, no junk, no chemicals. Dh does eat a lot of my food but does not follow the same strictness and sometimes I wish he'd do it in private if he must. Some of it's because I don't especially want Dd, just exploring eating, to be tempted by some of what he drags in.

But he is supportive of our nursing in many other ways and it's not like I'm perfect and never get on his nerves, so I don't make a big deal.

If I may also answer for my dh, he never changed his drinking habits, which means that he has on average, one beer every month or so! Not a problem for me.

My partner has been incredibly considerate. He usually asks me, "Do you mind if I have a glass of wine with dinner?" I never mind, especially when he has given me such consideration. And if I ever said, "I'm really wanting a drink, so it bugs me to have you drink one in front of me," he most certainly would skip it. I have recently begun to have teeny bits of alcohol myself, anyway.

When I was pg, I had gestational diabetes and all of a sudden couldn't eat any sugar, no fruit juice, limited amounts of other carbs (pasta, bread, potatoes, tortillas, etc). The gem of a man that I'm married to went on the same diet, in solidarity with me.

Hi! My dh won't type either But he does drink in front of me when I can't. When I was pg he used to ask beforehand, but it really never bothered me. And I do love my beer!Why should he miss out just 'cause i can't?
However, if it was FOOD that I couldn't have it might be a different story! Tara, your partner is the greatest!

The Boss likes a glass of wine sometimes for dinner whereas I'm a hops, rice and barley fan, so my occasional beer during our pregnancy wasn't a big deal for her. And the beer intake was cut back to maybe two or three bottles per week (where it still pretty much stands).

We did go to a decaf coffee household for the pregnancy and for a few months after Rowan's arrival. I did, however, grab a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee on a regular basis, outside of The Boss' company.
