What if we decide to send her back to PS

Okay, so I almost have dh on board with homeschooling, but I have a new question. (You ladies are gonna get tired ofall my questions) If at some point I decide, or she decides that she would be better off in a "real" school again. How would we go about doing that? How would we prove her grade level? Would it be a difficult process or what? Thanks.

In all likelihood, you wouldn't have to prove anything and the school would put her in at her age level, for the grade that she'd be in if she had been in school. They will probably test her skill levels to make sure she'd do ok (which she would). It's not a complicated thing. It's just like going to a different school when you move.

I guess it would depend on the locality. Procedures and policies vary widely from state to state, and from district to district.

When we lived in Virginia, we had to have our homeschooled children evaluated or tested yearly. So I assume that if the kids had to return to ps for whatever reason, they would be placed according to that. You know.... if the kid passed his 2nd grade standardized test, he would probably be put in 3rd grade if he went to ps the following year.

But some states don't require evaluation, and some (like mine) are iffy. So in that case, your child might have to take a placement test given by the school, have an interview, etc. I don't think it would be a terribly difficult process. They do this in some places just to see if kids are ready for Kindergarten.

Ditto I've done this with ds1, twice, two different school districts.......they didn't ask for "proof" or anything, just went by his age and grade level. It really isn't an issue.

Good luck,
Kristi

I know in our school district they just put kids into grade level by age. No testing or evaluations or anything.

I agree with what everyone else has posted. However, I have heard that once you get into high school things change. Some families find that if their child starts high school any time after the beginning of freshman year, they are required to provide proof of what their child accomplished(different schools, different requirements) in order to have it listed on their transcript for high school/graduation requirements. This issue would be a good one to start researching once your child hits that age.
