grinding teeth yikes!

My 5yr old dd is grinding her teeth in her sleep! I know this cannot be good if it continues and it is high time we got her in for her first dentist appt as well, but does anyone have any experience with this in their kids? She has not begun loosing her baby teeth yet but I expect she will be doing so sometime this year as she had all of her teeth by 15mos! Does this kind of behaviour typically continue with adult teeth, maturity in general? or can it be a 'phase' that is not totally uncommon for the early child to go through? Thanks in advance for any feedback

We had partial success (hard for me to judge b/c she sleeps in her own room) with our chiro/osteopath who also does TCM and NFT. Expensive though! DD is 7.

I've heard that magnesium can help. My daughter is 6 and also grinds her teeth, but sometimes she doesn't. I haven't got to the bottom of it. She has ground her teeth even when I have given her magnesium (via Natural Calm). So now I'm trying to give it to her more consistently to see if that helps. She only sleeps with me once a week or so, so it's hard to really keep tabs on it.
