shivering and cold is normal after birth in a hospital for 2 reasons...they have the air conditioning up to the max to keep the staff cool, especially 20 people in OR for a twin birth, and 2) the heatmakers (your sweet babies) are no longer there to keep you warm. Also hormonal dropping right after birth can cause that. sorry you had to have a section though....congrats on two!

Do not know where you got some of that information, but the OR is cold for the convenience of the staff, yes, and to keep the bacteria count down in a germ-infested, bacteria-laden hospital environment.

A woman feels cold for that reason and if she has an epidural, the shivering is normal for the return of the sensations of feeling --

The babies are no longer in the womb, AND the blood that had been circulating through the placenta to the babies and back cannot do that, so to prevent the mother from going into shock with all of this extra blood in the circulatory system, the adrenal glands kick on which helps to give the mother a natural high after the birth. This is nature's way of helping the mom attend to the newborn after endurance of the birth.

Yes, many hormones drop, but many kick in also as oxytocin which helps the baby nurse and the pituitary gland kick in and help to produce the colostrum for the baby to get nursing and growing.

The cycle is so delicate that doctors should know they cannot improve on it and all the monkeying around they do only makes things worse.
