Am I the only person completely turned off by Tom Hanks?

He's got such a following. I don't like his acting! I tried to watch a movie with him in it a few days ago and I couldn't. He just turns me off in a major way.

Am I alone with this? I'm not sure what it is about him...it seems like everyone loves him and I just don't get it.

I don't particularly like him, either. I can watch movies he's done without clawing at my eyes, but just barely. I'm really bummed he's been given the lead in "The Da Vinci Code".

I absolutely cannot watch Richard Gere. I'm also starting to feel that way about John Travolta and Harrison Ford (I can watch their older stuff, but not the more recent offerings.) And Tom Cruise...I have a hard time forgetting he's Tom Cruise.

nope, count me in....
I'm not the biggest fan either of many stars tday.
I feel rolls written for these stars so they really are not going out too much to "act" - ie: J Roberrts in Erin Brockovich ??
I did not think that was Oscar worthy.

Remember when the stars of the '30's, 40's, 50's & even 60's had to audition for roles?

I can watch his stuff but I don't usually care for most of it. The trailers for The Polar Express made me very very sad.

I haven't liked him in a role since Philadelphia.

He got the role in TDC? For real?

UGH! I am actually just sick of him right know!! My parents want me to watch Terminal but I don't know.............
The Terminal is the longest movie ever. There aren't many movies that I start thinking "OMG is it over yet???" but that is one of them. It is actually a good flick but long...very long...

Tom Hanks is hit and miss with me.

I don't dislike Hanks, but I don't think he is all that. zzzz. Puts me to sleep.

Count me in. I was so disappointed to hear that he's doing The DaVinci Code. Take a perfectly good book... and let Opie direct Tom Hanks in the movie version! :

I am not for or against Tom Hanks but him in TDC it's njust not the right fit
post #12 of 81
I could take him or leave him. I don't think he's terribly talented, but he's not painful to watch, just ho-hum.

T.H. lost a credibility for me after he won his Oscars, it always seems after someone wins one of those things they are everywhere and the quality of their work goes down. I stopped liking him after Castaway, that movie is my biggest fear.

I was sad to hear about the Da Vinci Code. I hoped they would cast someone more younger/leaner than Hanks. I know Robert Langdon is middle aged, but I always pictured him on the young side rather than the older side. I hope that didn't sound age biased, I was so hoping for an up and comer and not someone already Hollywood.

I haven't liked him since "Bosom Buddies." And I was about 7 yrs old at the time. I don't get the appeal either, and I can't stand Opie, so I don't think I'll be seeing this flick.

I totally have a soft spot for Harrison Ford, however. I can't even judge whether or not he's a decent actor, all I know is that Han Solo and Indiana Jones were 2 of the first men I ever loved. I mean, it's deep.

Harrison Ford, now there is a good nomination for the lead in the Da Vinci Code
post #16 of 81
I absolutly HATE Tom Hanks. I can not watch a movie with him in it. From Big to Sleepless in Seattle - can't stand the man. Hate the way he acts, hate the way he looks, hate the way he talks. Shutter!!

The only female actress I react to like that is Jodie Foster.

Word.

I must say that I caught Hanks in The 'Burbs over the weekend and L'dMAO. He was really funny back in the day.

Ugh. Boo. Hiss.

Apollo 13 was SO wretched. I was laying on the floor by like a half an hour into it going, "Make it stop, just make it stop. Are they dead yet?"

I absolutely hate how it seems like they purposely try to give the man movies so he can be nominated over and over for an Oscar. Just give him the twenty statues he's supposed to win and spare us all the pain of having to even see previews for the movies to go along with them.

Don't even get me started on Tom Cruise. :

Me too! He's not especially good looking, I don't like his voice and the only role I thought he was fantastic in was Philidelphia.

I was trying to figure out who would be a good fit for DVC and I totally agree Harrison Ford would have fit well. When I heard that it would be Tom Hanks, I told dh I didn't like him for it, but couldn't think of anyone else.

I think so many actors today play themselves and just use the words of the characters. If that makes sense to anyone besides me
