What I saw in the doctor's office today

I took Nitara to the ped. surgeon today to get her feeding button changed out, and noticed a rack of pamphlets about various conditions. Well in one slot was one called Caring for the Uncircumcised Penis and right next to it was Caring for a Circumcision Wound. The first one was very accurate with the info--basically said to leave it alone and not retract it.

I was so happy to see this!! And the fact that they called the circumcised one a "wound" and made it look kinda bad and icky.

That's awesome! I wish we'd see stuff like that here in the Midwest!

That's at least a step in the right direction. I wish they didn't have to call it uncircumcised, but I'm sure most people don't know what intact means.

Why not call it what it is - natural penis.

That is awesome! I'd like to peruse those two pamphlets just to make sure their info is up to date on all aspects . . .

That's great! I wish they had called it "natural penis" too, but hey, it's definitely a step in the right direction.

I long for the day that "uncircumcised" will be seen as derogatory.. I think it is! Does it offend anyone else?

I agree with the others - love the way they worded the title of the circ pamphlet, glad that the info in intact pamphlet was accurate, but wish it had a better title. Overall, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

It's a standard AAP leaflet, our ped gives them out routinely in the info pack we get at the first visit, VERY routinely, I got one and I have a girl :LOL
No one circs here (well, I guess the Muslims do), it's not an issue at all (except maybe now that people are reading American parenting and pregnancy books )

ETA - I tried to scan it, but the scanner's not behaving, and the baby is asleep in my arms, maybe later - but it all looks OK, retraction happens on its own, usually by 18, should never be forced, explains smeaga, reminds you about 3 times not to forcibly retract.

I find it derogatory and definetly offensive...uncircumcised suggests that circumsised is the norm. :
