Adam : What did you expect ? A message from the prophet ? Words from "on High" ? You're supposed to lead your people out of Egypt ?

You want to know what it means eh? I'll tell you what it means. The Universe is a hostile place Chigliak ! You think nature is some Disney movie ? Nature is a killer ! Nature is a bitch !! It's feeding time out there twenty-four hours a day. Every step that you take is a gamble with death. If it isn't getting hit by lightning today , it's an earthquake tomorrow or some deer tick carrying Lime Disease ! Either way, you're ending up on the wrong end of the food chain !

Ed : Oh…it's rather upsetting…

Adam : Well, it's supposed to be upsetting you moron !! Check out the Declaration of Independence ! You think it promises happiness ? No, no, no, it talks about he PURSUIT of happiness, the PURSUIT !!! We've become a nation of whimps! We think we're entitled to everything, we want to legislate ourselves into some cozy little cocoon ! Well forget it Nature Boy !! There are no garanties ! Life is nasty, brutish and short. Ece Homo …

Not to beat a dead horse, but....

Does this horse have to be dead ?!? So soon ?!?!?

I found this great site where you can read random quotes from NX. You have to keep refreshing the page for a new quote to appear.

It's amazing how funny and touching that show could be...both
at the same time

Oh the memories this thread has brought back!

I think my favorite episode was the one in which Joel was looking for other Jewish men for a ??(forgot the word) to pray with him after his uncle's death, but couldn't find any and realized that the point of the custom was COMMUNITY, and so the entire community gathered with him and each prayed in his/her own way while he read the Jewish prayers. I cried for the lack of such community in my life.

But then there's the Founding of Cicely, and the burying of their old friend episode, and the whole thing about Ron and Eric........

Marilyn was one of my favorite characters too.

sorry, late coming to the poll, but I have to chime in!

I haven't seen any of the reruns as we don't have cable, but I just loved the show....

has anyone mentioned Ruth Ann? I loved Ruth Ann!!! She was soo cool, but not fakey nice, she would tell anyone off in a heartbeat.

I loved Ed Chigliak too, what's not to love, and why hasn't he appered in something?

I love how the show started out to be mainly about fleischman/maggie tension, but the cast was so great it quickly
became just another plotline among many wonderful ones. I did think the writers "stretched" a little too far during the end when Joel left--it almost seemed like the shows were becomming NX parodies.

Did someone already discuss how the David Chase (creator of the Soprano's) originally wrote for Northern Exposure? Two other writers from NX also now write for the Sopranos. This is really interesting as I was not exposed to the Sopranos until this summer via DVD...I quickly went through the first two seasons and now I'm working on the third. I haven't been this excited about a tv show since Northern Exposure, and I had no idea the same writers were involved.

Hey, maybe we can play a game where we suggest our own plotlines for NX?

Here's mine:

Marilyn studies political science via a correspondence course through University of Alaska, and decides to run for mayor of Cicely.

Ed is torn about supporting Marilyn or Maurice, who is also running and will pay Ed good money to be his campaign manager.

Next?

all the best,
Victoria

Are you serious Vixenmama ? Wow ! Now I HAVE to watch !
I know they did St.Elsewhere too, but never saw am episode.

I suggest the following plotline :

I go on the show and Chris falls in love with me. After about,
say a month, of aaaaahhhhhs, I realize he's not the marrying kind so Ed and I fall in love and get married, I assist him in his shaman practice and we live happily ever after !! :LOL:LOL:LOL

Goosefeather,

Yes, it's true! I bought this Soprano's 'Episode Guide' put out by some corny rag like 'people' or tv guide or someone like that, and there were long articles about how David Chase wrote for NX and I believe the two creators of NX (a man and woman) now write for Soprano's...Be forewarned---it is not the same style show at all, though there is tons of humor and character depth, the action is so much darker. Also, the music choices are as fantastic as they were on NX.

hbo article on david chase, mentions NX

As for your plotline, are you sure you don't want to squeeze Adam, Holling or Maurice in for a fling before you settle down with Ed? I have a feeling from the way this thread has progressed that you could find yourself living in a teepee with say, 6 or 7 of Ed's other wives (I might be one).

all the best,

:LOL:LOL I'd have to say that Maurice is definitly out of the question...Holling, considering what his type is, I would not "inspire" him :LOL And Adam, we'll I like him in small doses
As for all of Ed's other wives, there are not in MY plotline :LOL:LOL

As for The Sopranos, I watched only one episode. What I say I liked. I'm not sure I would ever like it as much as NX but I'm sure it's "special"

Thanks for the link, I'm gonna check that out right now !

I remember the old NA men in the sauna. I Loved that!!!

How about the episode in which an ancient cradleboard is found in Maggie's yard? Everyone's got their own agenda for how to use it to promote Cicely or ????

Maggie and the women reclaim and rebury it.

The music at the end of that episode is one of my favorites, but of course I can't remember who....:
