I can't believe I saw this! and how much it hurts my heart!

I was driving home from picking my daughter up. I looked in my rear view mirror in time to see this grown man punching this little boy..I believe he was approx 6 by his body size. I couldn't believe what I saw so I looked again and the guy was still hitting this little boy. This little boy was cowering and trying to block this mans hands from beating the living c*** out of him. I called 911. I couldn't not call. It's one thing to spank your child, but this guy was hitting this little boy closed fist in the face. I gave the dispatcher my full name, my address and my telephone number and told her to that officers could come by any time and I would answer any questions they had. This is Alaska. We are a live and let live society here, but abuse is just wrong. Some people believe in spanking, that is their choice, but hitting a child, any child, with a closed fist is horrible and inexcusible..especially a little 6yo boy. Sorry..I'm a little emotional right now and just want to cry..

Absolutely, you did the right thing.

If you saw one grownup beating up a weaker grownup, the police woulc be called and (hopefully!) charges would be pressed.

We should do no less for our children.

Good for you!

I'm so glad for that child that he had you there to look out for him. You may well have saved his life.
How absolutely horrible.
I feel bad for you, too that you have that gruesome image in your mind. Do something wonderful with your family to put a beautiful image in there too. I will go upstairs right now and give my kids an extra kiss goodnight.

absolutely heart breaking. i can't believe this. I would have tried to restrain myself from stopping this from happening, like going up to the guy and telling him to stop it.

I'm so glad you called! You did the right thing. That poor child.

I experienced something very similar before I had children of my own. I pulled up behind a car at a stoplight and saw a tiny girl sitting in the front passenger's seat. The only reason I knew there was a child in the car is because I could see her little hair bow just sticking up above the top of the bench seat. All of a sudden, the woman driving the car starting slapping the child, swinging her arm as far back as possible and hitting hard. I was horrified! Then the woman looked in her rear view mirror, saw me staring at her, and she turned around in her seat and started screaming at me! I just froze. I was in a bad area of town where the crime rate is really, really high. If she had pointed a gun at me I wouldn't have been surprised. Then the light turned green and she sped off. The whole incident took less than a minute, but at the time it felt like an hour. And I didn't even get the woman's tag number. I'll always feel guilt that I froze like that and didn't do something to help that child.

OMG..

How absolutely heartbreaking....

I am a Norwegian, so my feelings about things like this are somewhat colored of my countrys laws against physical punishment.

I really, really can`t understand how ANY parent can hit their child like that. And how is it even possible that someone thinks it should be legal to hit children? WHY should it be legal?

WHY are there other rules for children?

AAARGGH! This topic just makes me bonkers.

Sorry, vent over....

I am so, so sorry for that little boy. And so, so proud of you for stepping in like you did!

Geez. Did you give the cops his plate # and a discription of both of them? Probably the will send cps out there and decide that he's fine and then the kid will die later. Sorry for being a bad cloud..I just hate cps and the crap they pull.
Good for you for calling him on it though.
