Evan is here ! (VBAC story)

I know I don't post often, but thought I'd share my Dec baby's birth story!

AJ had his GI appt at 3 pm Monday. I have been worried for a while that I wouldn’t make it b/c I would be in the hospital having Evan. I am convinced now it was the only thing keeping me from having Evan. Lol The ctxs started about 6 ish at 15 mins apart. I didn’t know whether to pay any attention to them or not b/c of what happened the Monday before. These were different though, very low, just at the bottom of my tummy and into my back. I was at MIL’s house and decided to go home about 7:45 when they were 10 mins apart or so so I could take a bath. That had been stopping the false ones lately. I got in my bath and took my alarm clock w/ me so I could keep timing. They didn’t stop in the bath and got to be about 7 mins apart. I got out, posted, and then tried to go to bed. While in bed, they spaced out to about 12 mins apart, but they were so uncomfortable that laying down wasn’t working. I decided to move to the couch about 11:30 I think it was. Got back on the comp again for a few mins! I tried sleeping on the couch and it just wasn’t happening so back to the comp on my birth ball I went. They were getting more intense now and about 7 mins apart again. At about 2 they were getting pretty intense and I had to really breathe through them (not real painful still though) so I decided to start getting ready to go (still waiting for the magic 5 mins apart). I showered and went in and told Adam we needed to go soon. I didn’t think we needed to rush so I went back and started getting dressed in the bathroom. I had a few ctxs while I was in there and Adam came in and said that those were only 3 mins apart and then I decided to hurry! Lol We got everything together (I had everything packed pretty much already) and AJ woke up then so we were all set. I posted and said we were off, and we were. It’s about 2:55 now and we go to drop AJ off at MIL’s house and take her car (we wanted her to have the car seat if she needed it). We show up at the hospital about 3:15 w/ 2-3 other couples. Busy night! Things started to get really hard then as they were closer and hurt a lot more. They checked me and got things going. I was 5-6 when I showed up and opted for the epi (I wanted to try w/out it and I think I did pretty well). Well, before I could get it, I had to sign all the papers and get the IV and so much fluid in me. That 1.5 hours were REALLY hard and painful. I was yelling through my ctxs and probably scaring the crap out of the other mommies there. By the time I got my epi at about 4:45ish, they were 1 mins apart and about 1.5 mins long w/ pain all through my ‘break’. The epi was great! So much better than the one I had w/ AJ’s. I started to get a hot spot on my left side again, but they fixed it quickly and I felt good again. This whole time Adam is trying to sleep on the couch b/c he was tired, ummm, I was the one who hadn’t even slept yet! Anyways. About 5:30 I felt a trickle between my legs and was sure my water had broken. I was wrong, it was blood. The nurse got me all cleaned up and told me she couldn’t tell if my water had broken or not. She checked me and I was 6-7 then. I tried to tell her this part went really fast w/ AJ, but I don’t think she believed me. She called my DR and told him about the blood and he said to just watch me. W/ every ctx though there was more blood. She had to keep cleaning me up and even changed my gown once. About 6:15 (I had just gotten off the phone w/ my mom) Evan’s hb got really high. The nurse gave me some O2 then to see if would help. About 6:30 his hb took a drastic drop (into the 60s) and she started rolling me all over to try and help him. My DR has the most perfect timing as he showed up just then, even though no one even called him! They checked me and I was 10 which was good b/c they needed to get Evan out THEN! I’ve never seen so many people move so fast. They called people from the NICU to come in in case there was something wrong w/ Evan. We talk quickly about how we’re not sure if my water had broken or not so he gets out the amnion hook and tries to see if there’s anything in there. There’s not that I know of, so I’m not sure where my water went...DR decided to use forceps to get him out. The epi was great b/c I felt no pain, but I could feel when to push. The next (and only) urge I got, I pushed, DR pulled and Evan was out! It was really easy except the 3rd degree tear all the way to my bum I got. Anyways, I look down and Evan is blue! He looks awful, but starts to cry in no time and cries and cries. It was wonderful to hear! He was born at 6:43 at 7 lbs 8.1 oz, 19" (we didn’t find this out till later b/c they didn’t tell us after he as born), w/ a 13.75" head (perfectly round). The DR delivered my placenta and finds that my bleeding is from my placenta starting to abrupt. Everyone was really interested in my placenta about then. Lol Weird people! But that was it. I got to hold Evan while the DR stitched me up and even then I knew this way was so much easier than having a c/s! I was so happy I got to have my VBAC, I feel great, even though my bum does not. It’s not painful really, just swollen and kinda uncomfy. So that is the way Evan Thomas Girard made his appearance only about 12 hours after I had my frist ctx!
