I thought I'd be one of the last waiting, but things happened sooner than expected. Water broke 1am Wednesday, went to the birthing center at 5pm, and the midwife deterrmined that I would need pitocin (sp?) since I wasn't feeling the contractions I was having. Labored through the night without pain meds--an intense but actually strangely mellow and focused experience. After 8am on Thursday when I was about 8 cm dilated I was given a narcotic to give me a chance to rest before pushing. There was still an anterior lip of the cervix, but because the waters had broken so early the midwife wanted me to start pushing. Started pushing for real a little past nine, and our son was born at 10:50am.
I hadn't expected to be hooked up to an IV all night, but other than that everything went really smoothly and as naturally as could be expected, given my odd hormones that didn't quite get my uterus to do its work on its own. I got great support and help from the staff and midwife, and DH got to be just as involved as he wanted to be.
We're now home struggling with breastfeeding. My milk just came in majorly, so pumping is the word of the week...
Good luck and best wishes to everyone!!!!
Guess I better change my signature! Yay for Eivind!
