the washer ate my batting!

I finally gathered all the materials I needed to make some cloth pads. All of the instructions I've read say to wash all the fabric including the batting before cutting anything. Well...I went to get it out of the washer and it's completely wadded up and ruined. I was following the basic instructions on Jan Andrea's webpage and step 2 is wash fabric and batting! Was washing it a retarded thing to do? Has anyone successfully washed cotton batting or has this happened to anyone else? I have everything else ready...that was my project for tonight!

have you dried it yet?? I wash all my cotton batting (warm & Natural) and it looks wretched coming out of the washer but fine once it's been dried. It also depends on what kind you got, the kind that's held together with resins won't hold up as well as the needle-punched Warm brand.

I didn't try drying it...I was so frustrated I just took it out of the washed and threw it on the laundry room floor. It's still there. I'll have to see if the dryer can save it. I can't remember what brand I got...must have been the wrong kind.
