This is embarrassing but I have an infection and I am in my first trimester of pregnancy. What can I use to help clear it up? I have an appt on Wednesday so I want to just wait til then to ask the doctor about it.

Oh man I feel for you... I had repeat infections with my 2nd and I didn't realize I had another one on top of the one I just treated until I was painfully burning every time I voided. It was awful!!!

Do not buy Gynocort, I was desparate, I went to CVS at midnight and that stuff hurt so badly I had to take a bath in the middle of the night at my grandpa's house!!! Fortunately, I also bought monistat.

The pharmacist in the middle of the night in Boston told me that it was safe to repeat treatment even being pregnant and that the 7 day treatment was better than the 1 or 3 day OTC monistat or equivalent. I trust a pharmacist over a doctor when it comes to meds, a pharmacist has a doctorate degree just in the chemistry of meds! Anyway...

As a preventative, cut sugars from you diet. A friend of mine once said to put yogurt in my vagina while taking antibiotics, I did and I never got a yeast infection then. I suppose you could also try yogurt (plain) if an OTC bothers you, the coolness would feel good. The treatment would also be longer than a week, more likely 3 to 4 wks using yogurt (if that would even work).

Thanks for your reply. I have been misting the area with a vinegar solution after going to the bathroom. It sucks because I know why I got it-I have been eating pretty much nothing but carbs since my all day sickness kicked in. It is all I can stomach and I'm sure it prompted a yeast overgrowth :

a yeast infection? try taking probiotics, and consider inserting a clove of garlic overnight or applying yogurt topically.

Tea Tree Oil works great for me. I put it on a Q-tip and insert it, but it is not for the faint of heart. I don't know that I would even recommend it because of how powerful it is, maybe putting a few drops in bathwater would work as well. I have read the garlic clove thing too, I would also eat a lot of garlic if you can.

If it is a bacterial infection, one wash of hydrogen peroxide should clear it up. There have been some studies that prove that it is as effective as antibiotics for treating bacterial vaginosis.

Good luck!

Also, buy some acidopholus and take that! It will help with the infection you have now and stave off future ones.
I had a yi when pg and I broke down and used a seven day monistat. I hadn't been taking the acidohpolus and was eating a lot of carbs and bam...sigh. I've since gotten back on it to help with thrush

Homeopathic sepia worked for me for yeast infections during pregnancy. It cleared up both times within a day and a half.

A plain yogurt douche worked great for me when I had a yeast infection once. It is cheap, easy, and safe. You may want to put a pad in your undies, though, as it can get messy. Good luck!

By the way, I did the yogurt douche twice a day for about 5-6 days. Cleared up really fast.

In Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal book for Women, she recommends Boric Acid suppositories for pregnant women. This is midwife approved according to the book.
I've used them while pregnant and not and have had fabulous results. You can find boric acid at the drug store, but be forewarned that it's poisonous if ingested to be careful!!

I bought some empty 00 gel caps in bulk and filled them with the boric acid using the tip of a pen cap. Insert one in the AM and one before bed. Use a pantyliner because some ick might come out. There might be mild burning at first. This is completely normal but should not worsen - in fact, it should go away after a day. Do this for seven days and viola. Yeast infection no more.
