Mouse tips?

I need ideas about getting rid of mice. Keep in mind that I live in an apartment building with about 25 other families, in NYC (the Bronx). This tends to complicate matters. (I've noticed that natural roach control sites tend to assume that oops, you've just noticed an isolated bug you brought home in a bag from the grocery store. Yeah, right.)

So...do live traps work? If so, which ones? Repellants? Any other ideas?

In our old apartment, we had a mouse or two that practically had a name. We knew his habits and where he lived, just couldn't catch up. (Living together peacefully was nevertheless unfortunately not an option, because he liked to relieve himself ALL OVER my linen closet. Aw, the mouse likes nice soft blankys...) I ordered live traps from Dreaming Earth, and they still hadn't come when we had to move to a different apartment. I trust our little friend met a fate as humane as the neighbors were willing to afford him, because we scared the heck out of him while we were moving our stuff out, and never noticed him again while we were there.

Maybe this is like "Lassie Come Home" and our mouse is unusually loyal for a lower mammal, or maybe my building is full of mice, or maybe they just love us in particular, but... I JUST SAW A MOUSE RUN UNDER THE COUCH, in our new apartment. ARG.

Help?

we had mice & caught 12 of them alive and just fine with a live mouse trap from....hang on...nak....it's called pro-ketch mousetrap...http://www.realgoods.com/shop/shop2....209/ts/2160083 just check it often like every twelve hours to make sure they don't dehydrate. But it works really well.

My understanding is that when you live catch and release, they just return. Or they go infest someone else's house.

We got 2 cats - no more mice. OK, not always an option, but it definitely works! I wonder if you could borrow a small baggie of kitty litter and place it where the mice are for a day or two? Not the best smelling option, but maybe it would fool them? Or borrow a cat for a couple of days?

We also considered live traps at the time, but I didn't know where it would be OK to release them.

We've been struggling with mice. So far we haven't had luck with any sort of trap. A friend of mine suggested these plug-in things that make a very high-pitched sound. She said they worked for her. I haven't ventured out yet to try to find them in the stores, so not sure if they will work for us or not, but thought I'd throw it out there.

We use hav-a-heart traps successfully for mice and unsuccessfully for rats. (note they are two different sizes for mice and rats) The key is good bait. Often the mice will go for a squirrel type feeding mixture, but if you have a stubborn fella - brownies!

We live on a farm, so we just drive the mice back to our woods (1 mile away) or the creek bed (about a half mile away) to release them, if it's not too cold out. Otherwise we set up cozy tanks in the garage and keep them as our guests until the weather breaks.

Good luck!!!
