moth balls - how to get rid of the smell??

Help! I have a beautiful old trunk of my grandmother's that I would love to use but the inside reeks of mothballs. I tried airing it out in our garage for months with the top open but still it smells. The inside is cedar, so the moth ball smell is a double disappointment. Any ideas?

Have you tried a solution with tea tree oil? It gets rid of mildew smells nicely (not to mention an old man's collection of ancient Aqua Velva...)
