Hi Jeanette and Ana!
Jeanette: I didn't get M/S til my second trimester with Darlene. It lasted until 20 weeks! eeeeek. But from 20 weeks to about 38 weeks it was smooth sailing!

Ana, I've had crappy insomnia too! Not good when you have a four month old. bleh. Did you have your older son at the same hosp?

Hey Pom

Thanks for the offer on the recipe, but I really hate fennel, so it's not too appealing to me!

I actually had some chicken pot pie the other day and ate the veggies in it (peas, carrotts, mushrooms) and thought, 'Oh that was so good! Doesn't seem to be affecting me." Then about an hour later I was yakking away. Fun, fun, fun.

I have discovered that I can eat fruit, though I want to avoid the sugar, so I'm limiting it. Apples with p-butter are good, and melons and berries are pretty low in carbs, so that's where I'm focusing. I've also found that I can eat cereal (I've never been a big cereal person), so I guess I need to hit the grocery store. Ugh. Just the thought of doing anything right now is making me queasy!

apples good. they've just been so unreliable lately (i know, I know, not the season)....I've had the best luck with organic fuji, but even those...

OK, so no fennel! I certainly didn't mean to make the problem worse, lol.

You know, have you tried clementines? Not nesc eating them, but smelling them? I recently learned the smell of oranges can ease nausea and migraines, and have had good luck with it.
Clementines! Oh my goodness, I'm pretty much MADE of clementines right now! I've been eating them (and oranges) nonstop for a couple of weeks. They do very little to fill me up but they taste good and they're wet...I was going to post something about them today anyway. All you queasy ladies, go get a crate of clementines. I swear they help!

Thought I would come over here and say Hello!

My name is Kim and I have three children - DD-8, DS-4, DS-2 will be 3 3/1
This is hopefully my 3rd full term pregnancy. As of this week I am officially out of the first trimister. My middle son we adopted at birth in case you are wondering what happened there.

I have a Mullerian anomaly and have had two csections, I plan on having a 3rd one and it is planned for July 7, two days before my due date. If I make it that far, that will be the longest I have ever been pregnant. I had hypermesis with my last pregnancy, severely and this time moderately. Its pretty much passed, and I am so relieved.

My name pretty much says it all. I am on the fence between the natural/ap mothering community and the mainstream mothering community. I will probably be actually more mainstream with this baby than I have with my others. This probably has more to do with our lifestyle and this being no.4. My husband has also expressed that he doesn't want to cosleep this time after the baby is more than a few months old. I guess that is going to be a wait and see thing, I am thinking of a sidecar sleeper of sorts.

Hello! My name is Shay, I'm 32 (in 3.5 weeks) and am 11.5 weeks pregnant with #2. My son is 13 so its been a while since I have had a baby (I was a young Mom the first time). While this is my #2, its dh's #1 and he is super excited (almost 40 and wasn't sure he would have kids).

I live in Southern Maine though I am really a Chicagoan in exile but Maine is growing on me. We have been here almost 3 years; I am a freelance writer/consultant in my last semster of grad school.

This pregnancy is different than the first one, I have a lot of fatigue, thankfully work is non-existent (bad for the pocket, good for me) at the moment so I am am to rest as much as I need to. No serious MS though I get afternoon nausea, and have heartburn. Had that though with my son, sometimes though it makes me not want to eat.

My #1 was a typical medically managed hospital event that made me thibk long and hard about whether I wanted a repeat performance. Though 13 years ago they were not nearly as epidural happy as they are now, I had NCB but it was a bad trip. Anyway we are using amidwife and planning on delivering a freestanding birth center. DH is a medical writer/editor so it took a bit to convince him though after we met the midwives and toured the facility he feel in love with the birth center.

Anyway I am excited but scared, I lost my Mom 10 months ago and have very little female support since dh's Mom is also deceased so I am really getting involved with online communites as a support network.

Sorry for the thesis but I just wanted to introduce myself.

Hey Shay,

Welcome! Um...not to get weird here, but are you around Portland? I'm FROM Maine (dad and brothers/sisters still there), lived 12 yrs in Chicago, and have been in LA for 2.5 years.

Of course, I'm sorry for your loss. My mother passed away a year and a half ago, so I totally get the lack of mom-ness around. I do have a loving MIL and stepmother, and a family friend who's done a lot to step up and fill the gap, but I'm sure you know, it's not quite the same. If it's a girl, the baby's middle name will be after her, and if it's a boy, after her father who was an amazing man (I'm pretty much end of the line).

Anyway, too many coincidences not to say a specific hello...

Pom,

I'm in Saco so while I am in York County I am pretty close to Portland. Also I write for a couple of Portland based papers so I am in Portland often.

Talk about a reversal, Maine gal in Chicago ends up in Cali. That's funny because my dh is from N. Cali (San Jose) he came to Chicago to go to college and after college stayed until I dragged him kicking and screaming to Maine. Maine is growing on him though he has made it clear that one day he wants to head westward again.

We are definitely planning that if this baby is a girl, her middle name will be for both our Mom's, if its a boy then he gets my grandpa's first name as a middle name. (my Mom's dad's name)

Ah, Saco - home of Fun Town! I loved that place as a kid. I grew up in Cape E. and DH dragged me kicking and screaming from Chicago. We were really happy there. As long as the weather holds up, I like LA OK.

hi! i introduced myself ages ago, but haven't been to MDC much lately...but i am back now.

my name is Robyn, i'm going to be 26 in a week and a half, and i live in BC, Canada. my dh Mike and i have a beautiful wonderful amazing 22 month old daughter, Jasmyn.

i'm 12 weeks pregnant with #2, and could not be more excited. i had a horrible birth experience with Jasmyn--short version: went to the hospital too early, had all the interventions, stuck on my back hooked up to everything they had, epidural, all of it, and surprise, surprise, my labour stalled at 3 cm, and i ended up with a c-section. luckily, i did manage to preserve our breastfeeding relationship after all of this, and we are still going strong. i am going with a wonderful midwife this time, and plan to have an all-natural VBAC. unfortunately, it will still be in-hospital, as i have some pregnancy-related health problems that prevent me from homebirthing (though my midwife is going to do some checking around just to make sure for me.) with Jasmyn, at around 9 weeks, i had a DVT (big blood clot) in my leg, and had to go on anticoagulants for the remainder of the pregnancy. i am on them again this pregnancy, just as a preventive measure. but due to the fact that i'm on this medication, it is possible to have bleeding problems, so i think i have to be in the hospital. but i am much more informed and confident this time, and i can't wait to have a great birth!

Betty from New York City due 4th of July!

I'm Betty, an English professor and still a graduate student at 39 years of age--finishing up my dissertation. I'll teach 4 classes this Spring semester, defend the diss in April, then have all of June to relax and prep for our first and probably only baby, due the 4th of July! My husband Johnny is much younger than me, a baby of 31, and thank God he was ready to try to become a father as soon as we got married--it took us a year and a half to get pregnant--no fertility docs, just kept trying til it happened.

We are both very happy but I have had such terrible constant nausea and vomiting in the morning and late afternoon that I've been smoking pot here and there. It completely and utterly relieves the sickness and has helped me to function with all the work I have to do. I've even been able to gain weight now--in fact, a bit too much (9 pounds in 14 weeks)--but that's also due to holiday cookie and bread baking. While I feel guilty for smoking, at the same time, sometimes I can't function without it.

I am hoping this crappy feeling and puking will stop soon but one girlfriend of mine said I'm probably going to have it all the way through, since it's not gone yet.

Hello .

I'm 35 and pregnant with #2 due the last week of July. My dd is 2 yrs. 9 mos. and I must say I am thankful for the spacing--can't imagine already having a 2nd. Dh and I have been married for almost 5 years. This will probably be our last child.

It took us about 6 cycles to conceive and at first I was bummed because I wanted another winter baby. Now I'm fine with it and looking forward to being able to be outside during labor (and maybe birth, too ).

My dd's birth was a relatively short birth (7 1/2 hrs) and quite glorious. I birthed her in water at my parents house (where we were living at the time)and she was born shortly after sunrise. Midwife got there when she was crowning so it was just Dh and I until then. Had some problems breastfeeding for the first 6 days but overcame them and she is still nursing today (although I think I am pretty much dry).

We plan to homebirth again, however, I am having trouble choosing a midwife and well, frankly I just don't want one. I really just want to birth alone this time. I know I should probably do prenatal visits... but I am so indifferent about the whole idea and am not sure if I can just "not call in time" when I go into labor, KWIM?

So, that's us in a nutshell. I look forward to getting to know you all over the next...wow, do we all only have 6-7 months left. Cooool

Coming in late... I was here on the board right when I first found out I was pregnant but then got so sick that I havent been around for a month or so.

I am Morgan, 29 (today ), married to a wonderful guy for just over 3 years. We have a newly 2 year old son, Maximus. I had a miscarriage just 2 weeks before getting pregnant this time so it was a bit of a shock. We are not *too* sure of dates but going by u/s measument I should be due July 26th. I am thinking more like early Aug. since Maxi was VERY overdue but we will see.

I have had 2 u/s due to the m/c - they thought the + preg. test might be hormones from that pregnancy. So we saw the heartbeat around 6 weeks. I am now 12 weeks 2 days. Not showing yet but my pants dont fit.

As for symptoms I have been SICK! WAAAAAY sicker than I was with Maxi. This pregnancy is all around different so far. I am super exhausted and can hardly eat anything so I have lost weight, which I cant really afford to do. I am slowly starting to feel better and eating more which is good but I am dying for that 2nd trimester energy to arrive. Hopefully just a couple more weeks!

Max's Mami -

Hi, I have seen you on the diapering boards a lot. Glad to have you here.

Weclome mamas!

Max's Mami,

You sound just like me with the fatigue and not eating. The fatigue is almost borderline debilitating for me. Though I am 13 weeks tomorrow and the past few days I have had a bit more energy.

I am truly hoping that my energy returns because if I am this way the whole pregnancy its gonna be long.

Hope you feel better too!

Welcome new mamas.

Hi there!

I used to post fairly frequently on Mothering and then I quit (I was spending was too much time reading posts and not enough time finishing my master's thesis!).

I am almost 15 weeks pregnant with our third. I have a 3 year old ds and a 16 month old dd. DD still nurses every night before bed - I have been gently weaning her over the past two months. Like some of you, I tend to suffer from extreme vomitting from about 5 weeks until I give birth. I was feeling just too weak to continue nursing her throughout the day and night. I feel a bit guilty, but I feel we are in a good space - we still get to have our time together and I am starting to feel a bit better. I am taking diclectin - it is an anti-nausea/b12 pill to help with hyperemesis. If I take the pills and eat constantly, I manage to keep the vomitting to 3-4 times a day - manageable! Neither of my children regularly sleeps through the night, so life is a bit tough at the moment.

I live in BC too - in the East Kootenays.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Hello, I'm Tara. I'm in the St. Louis suburbs. I have a 5 year old son named Dustin, a 3 year old daughter named Dorothy, and a 15 year old step-son named John. I've been dealing with horrid morning/all day sickness and extreme exhaustion this pregnancy, which I attribute to working full-time, going to school full-time (graduating in May), and raising my children. I love being a mommy, and I'm going to really get to focus on it after the birth of this new babe - due July 4! I'll be resigning from my job to open a licensed home daycare - which is my dream come true

I'm a little nervous about this baby having some issues with food allergies &/or asthma as I have the FA's & dh has asthma. Dorothy has life threatening food allergies, so I know how to deal, just don't want to...sigh....

Due to a retained placenta that ended up coming out in pieces, I am planning a hospital birth at what I consider a baby-friendly hospital. The goal is unmedicated, but I'm not ruling anything out. I am already high on the blood sugar, failed the 1 hour GTT 4 weeks ago. I've been delaying the 3 hour, but need to go before my next appt.

Hoping you are all doing well!

Tara - Dustin 5, Dorothy 3, baby due 7/4/05
