What to do with Avente bottles, and what to replace them with?

Gearing up for baby #2, I'm considering my Avente Isis pump and the bottles we have with it. I know the plastic is bad (is it #7?), but I don't know what to use instead. I've been switching to glass for a lot of household stuff, but I remember reading that some important parts of bm stick to the inside of glass jars more than to plastic. This will be for only occasional use, such as infrequent dates, not on a daily basis.

I don't really know much about the breast milk "sticking" to the glass bottles but if you are just going to use them occassionally I wouldn't worry about it. Evenflo still makes glass bottles. I found mine at Walmart. I've also found glass bottles at the Salvation Army.

I know that the #7 plastic is really a problem when you heat stuff in it, so I would keep the avent bottles for pumping the milk into (the glass ones have a different top so they wouldn't fit onto the pump) and then transfer it into the glass bottles for warming the milk and feeding it to baby.

I know a lot of people are worried about the glass bottles breaking but I have never had one break yet and I had a toddler who liked to run around with them! : I couldn't get her to sit down for anything. The bottles are made out of fairly thick glass. As long as they're not being tossed down on ceramic floor or concrete.

Hope that helps you out.

Jill
