Experience with immunization expemption in a private or Christian school?

From what I understand private schools can "make up their own rules" concerning immunizations.

We are looking at a Lutheran school and I know in the handbook it states that each child must be immunized due to state law. I know we have a religous exemption in Illinois, but not sure how they will handle it.

Also, when I write an exemption I don't want to necessarily quote scripture but I don't mind give a brief explanation. The only form letter I've seen online as an example is the one drafted by the attorney and it's filled with defense and verses. Does anyone know of any others?

check out the vax board. lots of good stickies up top. And I'd strongly urge you not to give out more than the law requires. No excuses or reasoning. Just a simple "I'm taking advantage of our state's exemption laws".

Most private schools have no problem with this. Sometimes they are required by law to keep the unvac. children out of school if there is an outbreak of a vac. disease like whooping cough. That is usually the extent of it.

It's not all that important, but I don't think this statement is true.

At least here in Rhode Island, the state sets the rules, but in most cases there is a way to opt out, including for religious or other reasons.

I believe this is true no matter what school you wish to attend, but in certain private schools you will probably get fewer puzzled, uncomprehending looks when you talk about children who aren't vaccinated by choice, and perhaps get some help in finding the correct forms that must be on file as documentation for the school.
