usatasmom-

I can't believe that the dryer sheets came with the dryer and then they try to ding you for using them!!!! It's like sabotage! As for your new W&D, sounds nice! Hope you like it!

Lots of interesting things here.

We have a Maytag Neptune.

We are too fighting the stink. THings have gotten better though. Here are some of my findings:

* Tried Sportwash - hated it! IT makes the diapers smell way worse than when we don't use it.

* Haven't tried Bac-Out. I have heard good things about that.

* Boiling hemp didn't seem to work much for me.

* I added water to the cycle, but I'm not sure if I was doing it right. I probably needed to strip my diapers and so the adding extra water didn't really do a whole lot. I guess the delicates cycle uses more water so we use that.

* Vinegar is horrible - it makes things smell really bad.

* I've heard that detergent rinses better in warm or hot water. Our hot cycle only has a cold rinse so I run an extra warm rinse.

* I've also heard that detergent rinses out better with softer water, so I just started putting some Calgon water softener in too.

* I also turn the water heater up (although, the water gets really hot so don't forget to turn it down, like I always do).

So, here's my routine - and it seems like it is getting better:
hot/cold on delicate cycle, pre-wash, heavy soil, extra rinse - 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 T of Arm and Hammer powder detergent - 1 capful of TTO in the rinse tray.
Then, a lot of times I'll do another rinse or two on warm/warm
I hang my fuzzibunz to dry and I dry my hemp joeybunz in the dryer for like 80 minutes or so.

I think the thing that helped the most was turning up the water heat.

We have pretty poor water pressure, so that might have something to do with our problem. I'd never heard that before.

We also have poor water pressure. Low enough that my mini-shower was pitiful when we first tried it and I kept telling my DH this was abnormal, b/c all the other CD mamas talk about how strong their sprayer is! So my DH reluctantly messed with it in order to make it spray strong enough to actually DO anything, and it gets the job done. I should call the utility company and ask them about the pressure issue, but I get the feeling they won't really have too many answers and probably won't do anything about it.

We have the Kenmore Elite and soft water- no stink. I use the Whitest whites with a prewash and extra rinse. I actually have better luck with front loader than I did with the old top loader. I only use a few hemp dipes, though and these are prone to stink.

I have an LG and use the cheap Costco detergent. I have it set up to do a cold prewash, hot wash, cold rinse (long cycle). I use about 2 TB of detergent in the prewash and 2 more in the wash.

I very occasionally have stinky diapers, but a few washes with baking soda in the prewash (in addition to the detergent) and vinegar/TTO in the fabric softener basket take care of it.

We're on city water, and it's slightly soft, but not too much.

Our pressure on our diaper sprayer is so strong it about blows me away. I have to make sure that I don't squeeze the trigger too hard or I'll get poop all over my bathroom

I'm sure you've checked this but we have a central knob that controls our water pressure in our pantry of all places. We can turn that up or down to control how strong or weak our water pressure is.

My washer would stink too, but not just diapers. ALL our laundry stank. We have a new Kenmore HE3t front loader. I ran an empty cycle on HOT with some bleach (ok, a lot of bleach) and it killed whatever was growing and stinking in there.

My diapers/clothes don't stink anymore.
I use the 'sanitary' cycle, with a prewash (with a bit of detergent), stain treatment, extra rinse and extra spin (basically all the options). I spray off all poop with a minishower and dry pail, if that helps at all.

Soak/prewash on cold to get out stains. Hot may set them.

Hmmmm, I will have to ask Dh about the a water pressure control knob! Our house was apparantly built by an idiot. Our poor contractor said he has never worked on such a screwed up house before (things were done very oddly and things not where they usually are). Soooo, we may be hunting for this water pressure knob for quite some time. Lol, as far the poop all over the bathroom. My Dh had the joy of spraying one of joshua's poopy dipes, at the perfect angle that he got poop water into his mouth!!! He was NOT happy, of course I thought it was funny.

I HAVE STINK!!! I am so grateful for this thread because I have stink and it's HORRIBLE.

I have the GE FL (about 5 years old) and NOTHING else that goes through it stinks... but I have to have it serviced because both the fabric softener and bleach compartments are clogged and I've pulled that tray apart but have no clue what's going on. I'm also going to clean the gasket.

We finally got a water softener and it wasn't immediate--but we only had stink thereafter. Could be coincidence. I also use liquid detergent (usually Tide) and sometimes have to run it through 2-3 cycles if I used too much detergent.

The knob is right at the intake valve between the floor and the toilet. If you turn the pressure down you won't have spray everywhere but the toilet will also take longer to fill.

Oh, duh! Yes, I know what you are talking about. I thought there was some sort of knob for the water pressure in the entire house, lol! Unfortunately, we have tried the toilet pressure knob and it didn't make a difference.

Oh, duh, now I know what you mean. Yes, we have tried that it does not work. I thought there was a knob for the water pressure for the entire house, lol.

This thread is great! I came here hunting for info on my stinky diapers in the FL. So I am going to try some of these ideas!

I also remembered while reading this that you can get build up on your machine- so I started a hot wash with nothing in it with a cup of vinegar- and the darn thing made suds! So I guess that is part of my problem. Just wanted to pass it on to others with the problem.

I'm also glad to see that others say they thing the FL take a long time to run, and especially when you have to do 3 cycles- I thought I was the only person in the world whose diapers spent more time in the washer than on the baby! :LOL

This washing thing is so confusing! Some say yes to BS and vinegar, some say no. Some like sportwash, others don't. I guess I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing, which is sometimes using all of the above and very little detergent. Congrats Mags on your pg!!! It's me Tara from FB.
