autumn 2001 babies, let's try it again! - Page 2

Hi!

Thank you for starting this up again. Mira is turning one in about six weeks and I've been feeling increasingly reflective as I ponder all that she's done the past year. She started walking two days ago and loves staggering all over the house. She's also starting to talk---Mama, Papa, Hi, Bye and I think she said "duck" a few days ago. Sometimes its hard to catch these new words.

She's recently begun to pretend to cook and clean. About two weeks ago our cat got sick. Mira "asked" for a paper towel while I was blotting up the evidence. She sat down beside me and started scrubbing the rug with the paper towel! What a helper!
She's also "washing dishes" in the bath tub every morning and "cooking" whenever I give her kitchen pans and utensils to play with. So sweet.

I can't believe how quickly the year has flown by. I just never knew that I could love someone so much. I feel like my heart could just burst. Motherhood is such a joy. I stare into Mira's eyes and feel so totally blessed to have this beautiful funny (she has a wonderful sense of humor!) little being in our lives. My experience has been oddly and unexpectedly largely free of ambivalence (had done a lot of reading and was rather expecting it to be more difficult than it has been...) Even the night waking has been curioiusly fine (though admittedly less frequent than I've read about on these boards). I love nursing her at night when the rest of the family is asleep. Just want to be totally present and savor every minute with her. She's growing so quickly!

StillForest you stole the words right out of my mind! I to have found this past year to be so much more then I thought it would be. Sophia is the most amazing little person, I feel so very blessed.
Hi Eris and Whizzie nice to see some familiar faces. I'll probably still see you on that other board sometimes too! That is if you stil post!

Sophie will be ten months next Tuesday.

She doesn't have one durned tooth in her head, but she insists on chewing everything she can cram into her mouth.

She commando crawled for a whle but is finally up on all fours. She is cruising furniture, too. The one hysterical thing she does, but which I HAVE TO STOP laughing about, is when she crawls up the slanted back of my claw foot tub and slides back down it into the water.

She's eating all kinds of fruits and veggies. Her favourite seems to be peas. And do you know what "recycled" avacado smells like? Get a gas mask. :

If I give her "babas" at midnight, she will sleep till 7am !!

She's got that stranger anxiety thing going, and will cry if someone gets in her space. She doesn't mind seperating to explore, though.

I take her to tai chi in the morning, and she imitates us! She sits on the ground and lifts up her hands.

She's giving kisses, but only to me and and her sister.

She's been swimming, on a plane, gone hiking, and I have one great pic of her and the doggie, wearing the same life preserver, on my Mum's boat. Er, the same STYLE life preserver, they each have their own.

She's such a joy.

I am NOT envious. I am NOT envious. I am NOT envious... dang, it isn't working! I *am* envious. We used to have a claw foot tub when I was pregnant with our first. Oh, bliss. Major bliss. Dh and I are so tall, that we don't fit properly in a normal tub. I can't even straighten out my legs. And with the clawfoot, I could not only stretch my legs, I could lie back, relax AND my entire big pregnant belly would be covered by water because we duct taped the overflow. Sigh. Now we have one of those tiny tubs, square sides, pain in the back. But it is a great bath (size) for bathing kids.
It is on our "to-do" list for when the kids are a bit older and don't splash around that much anymore.

Sorry, couldn't resist this post. No new info on kidlet... just a big envious sigh.

I just wanted to say "Happy Birthday" to all of the September babies! woohoo! OnE!!

I just got Veronica's party invites in the mail today. One on October 9th. So fast.

She's been exclusively walking well over a month. Nurses still like crazy, mostly at night but some heavy days too.

We took her on her first canoe trip, and second camping trip this past weekend. And she was awesome in the canoe! my little camper. She slept the last third of the trip down river. too cute.

anyway, gotta go. Have fun! We should somehow post one year cake pictures. That would be fun to see!!

hugs!

Hi! I just found this thread and it's nice to read about other fall babies. Miriam's 11 mos now (10/23/01) and I can't believe it's almost a year! She is SO close to walking, so much so it hurts. She stands there and looks around but just isn't quite ready to let go of the couch while walking. I figure she'll just pick up and go one day. She didn't crawl until pretty late, then one afternoon she was off exploring the whole room!

The hardest part for me is that she doesn't look like a baby anymore. She is so tall (not surprising, I'm 6 foot) and looks like a kid. I'm missing the babyness of it all. I'm starting to get that baby fever again, like it's time to have another....

So I just posted this at another board and feel like I am gushing all over the internet, but I'll tell you anyhow. Dd took her first steps today, she also turned 11 months today. My big girl it was so cute she thought it was the funniest thing and lauged the whole time.

Congratz to the new walkers!! YeaH!!! too fun! And yes, they are like little people now. sooo fast!

And a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the October babies!

I think I've decided to throw a Hawaiian themed party for Roni. She my little Hawaiian music lovin baby, so it feels only appropriate.
(on the way home from S. Padre Island, TX in August, she was fussing almost the whole way, and he played a Hawaiian music tape over and over to calm her down. if it wasn't playing, she wasn't happy. Oh my, what have we created???)

Anyone signing with babe? Forest and I just started ASL more with each other. I used some signs with him when he was a baby. So it'll be fun to have him and Veronica communicate early.

Hugs,
Liz

Mac turned one last week!!! We had a birthday party for him and he LOVED it - he was such a little star - beaming and making eyes at all of the mums - he is such a little flirt! I was so proud of him.

He has been taking a few steps for the past two weeks, but last night he decided it was time - he walked half way across the living room - about 20 steps!!! He was giggling the whole time.

It is just so amazing how fast this year has gone. Last night my dh and I watched some video we had taken of when Mac was first born - we were both just a mess - teary eyed and beaming...

We are using baby signs (loosely based on ASL) - so far Mac can do train (we live very near the train tracks!), milk (he still nurses constantly), more, flower, and eat.

Keep posting everyone - I love reading about all of our wonderful babies.

You guys have a great thread going here!!! I'm glad to see your babes are all doing great, but since they aren't going to be "babes" for much longer I'm going to move this thread to the Finding Your Tribe board. I hope you all continue to share.

Daisy has officially learned to care for a baby (or so she thinks). Whenever one of her friends cries she immediately runs over and gives them hugs and kisses. If they continue to cry she calmly sits and pats their back until they stop. She knows babies are not supposed to sleep alone, so she climbs in the cradle with the baby doll. She love to feed her dolls, although I'm not sure why she knows that's what the doll bottle is for.

She still nurses every 2 hours and has no interest in eating food, with the ecxeptions of cheese, pickles, and prunes. She's very good about sharing what she doesn't want though.

She's freakin' brilliant!

Wrigley is just about to turn 1 and I think this is a really cool stage! Every day I have a great story to tell DH about what Wrigley has shown me she has learned. Today's story:

we were just unloading the dishwasher and I gave her a plastic lid to play with and she took it over to the lid basket and dropped it in. I exclaimed and praised how impressed I was and she promptly took the basket out began spewing lids across the kitchen. ah well... but wait the story is not over.... so while I finished unloading the dishwasher she played lids and I was pretty much able to do my thing without paying much attention to her. then, when I was almost done, I noticed that she had put each and every lid back into the basket and she was putting the basket back into the drawer! Well, it didn't go quite right, she accidentally overturned the basket so the lids went everywhere again, but she went back at it! She did loose interest eventually, but what a great game!

And now I can hear quite distinctly, "get off the computer and come read to me."

Jbcjmom - instead of moving the thread, we will just start the next one under "Life with a toddler" I think that would make it easier to find rather than the tribe one.

Daniel is doing great! 1 year and one month old. He has quite a vocab going - hello, how are you (all as one word), see ya, bye bye, I love you, ball, eat, aana for nurse, nana for banana, cheero, Lauren, daddy, momma, book, go and he is signing so many more things now too.

He walks and is just beginning to run, he climbs like a monkey and has figured out how to push chairs or other pieces of lightweight furniture around to climb on. He LOVES to go outside.

Since he has been going to daycare a couple of times a month, he has also been getting sick - we have suffered through a severe cold and are recovering from a flu like illness at the moment. He is however still nursing like a champ and shows no signs of thinking about weaning, He will take a sippy cup, but he won't take it over nursing.

So how's everyone doing???
Thread sort of petered out, didn't it?

We're doing good. Luca is almost 17m now, and he's quite the individual. For one, he *walks* down the stairs off our kitchen deck into the back yard. Gives me heart attacks. We have handrails at kids' height, but now that he knows how those work, he wants to try it without support.
He won't be fed anymore, he has to do everything himself. Drinking out of a sippycup is evil, he wants a normal cup, thank you. Otherwise he won't drink.
He is starting to sleep better at night, needing a feeding at 11 and at about 3, other than that he sleeps from about 8pm to 7.30am. He naps about an hour and a half around midday.

He's only got his 2y molars to happen now... he's had all the other teeth and molars at 11 months. Sigh. He's got quite a vocab, even though he's not pronouncing everything properly yet, the intonation often tells me what he wants.

And you all? How's life with your toddler?

Daniel is 17 mos old - still nursing a couple times a day but also eating a variety of everything else. He still has a pretty severe milk allergy though so he's on soy products when he drinks milk from a cup.

He is running and loves to play soccer with his big sister - he can kick the ball and run at the same time which I find pretty amazing. He talks constantly - some babble interjected with words and is VERY insistant when he wants to go bye bye - last night at 9 pm he was throwing his shoes at me and pulling my hand to make me get up from the sofa to "bye!Bye!"

He has started doing some of the terrible twos stuff - occasional wall-eyed screaming fits - but is for the most part a pretty happy, sweet natured little guy.

8 teeth and 4 molars - more coming in.

This thread should be called Autumn 01 BIG KIDS! Madeleine is 17 mos (10/8/01) and she is quite a little girl. I think since we spend so much time together that she's actually my best friend. She wants to do everything that I do, and for the most part I let her. She loves going to the park now that it's melted here - she goes down the slide and climbs and swings. She's super lovey, never sleeps more than 3 hours at a time and is really starting to talk! Her fav words: up, nunus, other side, done! She has ten teeth with 2 more on the way. I think she's fairly reasonable for a toddler. She's the queen of the 10 second tantrum. It's time for bed now - night night says Maddy!

NUNUS!!!! That is my daughter's favorite word. WHat does it all mean?: :

I need to bad but I'll post tomorrow, I just noticed this thread and I'd been wondering about all you 2001 mamas out there.

Goodnight!
Heh - Daniel is a typical "man" - he kisses me on the chin softly, puts his hand on my shoulder and says " Momma!!! Nih-Nih?" when he wants to nurse LOL!!!!
