kind of gross

Hi, this is pretty gross, but I am wondering if it has happened to anyone else out there. We have a choc. lab who likes to eat ds spitup and she will chew on items that my bm has gotten on (shirts, a cloth diaper, sheet). The other day ds spit up on the kitchen floor over my shoulder and before I had the chance to wipe it up the dog had licked it up! Talk about disgusting!

(cant belive I even admited that my dog does that!)

sounds to me

like your dog is earning her keep.
when my baby was a baby, we did EC and the bedside potty was emptied each morning when we got up. if the beagle didn't get to it first. gross, whatever.
quite frankly i've become thoroughly sick of the idea of caring for pets, the fact that most dogs lick up funky baby messes is the only thing that they do that is any good.

it's totally normal, however much it might bother you psychologically, and it certainly won't hurt your dog. have fun with all the 'urple' it's called around here.

Chocolate labs will eat absolutly anything. We caught ours cleaning out the dirty cloth diapers one day. So spit-up is nothing. :P When we had her in puppy kindergarten, another one of the dogs got sick on the floor, and both of the chocolate labs there, as well as the black lab, ran up and ate it. :

WOw I wish our black lab was focused more on breastmilk and spit up. He goes for the poopy diapers. ICK!

Well, I read in some book once, that in nations where all moms EC and most people go around nearly naked, the mom holds the baby off to one side to poo, and then calls the dog. Who cleans off the baby.

thanks

Thanks, all that info makes me think that it is still gross, but not as bad as it could be!

I had a chocolate lab when I was bfing my son who did that. It was really convenient :LOL My son spit up all the time and it would have been exhausting doing all the clean up myself in those early days.

The black lab I have now is worthless. He is disgusted by my Dd's spit up.

sliiiiiightly OT, but...

anyone ever see how a mama koala feeds her baby? i don't mean nursing either, i'm talking about how "solids" are introduced.

It's my understanding that the "ickiness" the dogs take care of is their way of taking care of their "pack".. Like momma dogs "clean-up" after their pups to keep preditors away they do the same thing for smaller members of their "pack".. So you dog accepts your baby into it's pack... Now all you have to worry about is dominance issues when your baby starts walking..

Warm Squishy Feelings..

One day when my dd was going on her potty on the floor, the door snuck in and befoer I knew it, what she had deposited was gone! It was very difficult not to react to that one!

Well that clears things up, I always wondered how they dealt with the issue of wiping up...

Kids and dogs can be counted on to gross you out! LOL

I actually call my dog to clean the floor when Toby spits up down my back!
Our dog does the same thing. She really likes something she can chew on like the curdled spit up!

My dogs "clean up" too. I have found really nasty poopy diapers all cleaned up by the dogs. YUCK! My dogs also has cleaned up afet me as well when I have been sick. It's good to know that it's jst pack protection but it's still :Puke

When dogs have puppies, the moms eat their babies' poo for a while, until they start to wean. So it looks like you have some good instincts in your dog if they'll do it for your baby!

Ok but then how do you explain my male being the one who does all the eating and my female just moving on???
