today i made a journey into vaxland...

i went to the health dept to get a copy of the religious exemption form. the receptionist made me sign my kids in (never mind i only had one with me ) and i tried to explain that i just wanted a copy to look at and pray over. anyway, i signed us in and waited, but for some reason i got really paranoid and put a made up addy and phone # on the card. so after i sat down a mom w/2 kiddos came and sat next to me and whispered, "i'm here for the same reason!". she had been waiting an hour, but once she went in the room she came right our 5 mins later. took them another hour to call me. i told the RN i just wanted a copy to take home and she said no. so i said OK and asked if i could read it before i signed it. she slid the form over, but kept her hand right on it. well, she didn't know who she was messing with. lol i just moved really fast and picked it up and was getting ready to put it in my purse and leave, but she offered to make a xerox copy for me, and i thought i better just let it go. all i wanted was to just read it and take my time deciding. so i have a copy of it now. it looks pretty simple. i'll prolly go back and take care of it in a week or two.

it contains a paragraph that says "i understand that if an outbreak of a vax preventable disease occurs my dc will be banned from school til its over". so i asked the RN why? she said, "b/c your unvax dc could catch it and spread it". and i said, "how could it be spread if ALL the other kids are vaxed?" and the reply was..."cuz vax doesn't always work for all dc and someone could get sick!" roflmbo! i ended the episode by saying, "well, barring my kids from school during an outbreak is counterproductive to why i'm not vaxing. i want them to be exposed to some degree". she asked why and i said to boost their immune systems and possibly acquire natural immunity, to which she replied, "HUMPF!" i love it when i'm smarter than ppl w/more "education". lol

good grief that's a ton of hassle for one lil card. Good for you for sticking to your guns and not listening to the herd immunity b.s. that's being spewed.

Hey good for you!

Now, don't just sign it. Read it, reread it, and study it some more. Then leave what fits and cross out what doesn't before you sign it.

Good luck.

BTW there are some on the web, just in case. Because you can sign anything. You can even make up your own.

Scroll down to where you like what you read. Again, pick and choose. Underline, cross out, whatever...

Wow, they really were treating you horrible, werent they?! I agree with Gitti. Read it really well, cross off any parts you dont agree with or dont sign it at all and make your own.

i would

absolutely write my own 'exemption'.
sorry to sound sarcastic, i'm sure you understand...

Can I ask what state you are in? I can help you find more law info. You can PM me if you rather not post it. I also have a list of doctors that are vaccine "friendly" or vaccine tolerant. It might help if you could go to one that is not pushy. I dont have all the states yet but I have quite a few.

OMG That would be too funny if it weren't sad. May I ask why you had to go there to use their form? I mean, I love the one on Gitti's link. Isn't that sufficient? I have a really simple one that was passed on to us. I am just assuming when my kids goto school, that will suffice. Will it not?

sigh...what dumb/scared people are in our world.

im lucky in texas all i had to do was write a letter requesting an exception form and tell them how many i wanted adn they sent them to me in the mail. never even had to leave the house.

I am not clear on why you need to signan exemption right now? Are you getting ready for school? Is it a card you just have on you?
When my dc started school I simply wrote a letter to the schoo that said I did not have a copy of my kids' vaxes because I do not believe in having them given to my family..
I guess I am lucky- no health center for me..

i have tried to research this up to my eyeballs and it seems like my state is most accepting of their own HD form. i have yet to read anything saying my own draft is good enough for CYA purposes. i am not worried about school. my older ones are not fully vax'ed and NOT ONCE has anyone ever asked for the record (or exemption), except routinely the 1st day or registration or whatever. but i wasn't done making up my mind until my 3yo came along, so now i want an official form. so school is not a problem for me.

my problem is xh. he thinks they should be fully vax'ed according The Schedule. but the man is an idiot, seriously. when i was pg w/the baby (3yo) he said he wanted to make sure i would give ds the smallpox vax. i'm like, ummm...i don't think they've done that one routinely since b4 WE were even born??? he got mad and called me lovely names, and only after dragging him to the doc and making HER tell him ds would not be offered the SP vax did he feel stupid enough to let it drop. so i am CMA against him. and when/if DCF comes a'knockin', i want to have the "official" stuff to throw in their faces. lol

i'm gonna check out those links now, though, just to see what others have written. to be honest, the language of the form does not bother me. it doesn't say anything near as bad as the "release of liability for extreme dangerous-ness of vbac"...if you vbac your baby will die..., yk. i would type out the form but i don't type fast enough to do it. if i find a link i will post it. the wording is pretty neutral...no "if you don't vax your dc will die". lol

Would you tell me what state you are in? I am curious if they have an online form.

Here the kid with the disease, not the kid who isn't vaxed is the one kept out of school.

I was specifically told by the Health Dept that it was to protect the unvaccinated.

Makes much more sense to me.
Actually, what is acceptable will depend on what state you are in. In my state, FL, you have to pick up one specific form at the health dept, and if you can believe this, there is only ONE WOMAN in my county that can give you this form. This form must be on file at the school before you can enroll your child.

Some may prefer to have this form on hand should someone try to claim negligence due to the parents not vaccinating, before the children are school age, even though there is NO LAW in place that states a child must be vaccinated BEFORE school entry.
